Odom expresses his desire to stay

Post#1 » by lakersfanatic » Sat Jun 6, 2009 3:34 pm

Just came out today that he wants to stay. Unless someone offers him an incredible deal he can't refuse but how much is incredible on his terms?

Positively thinking, i like what i hear.

"Of course," Odom said when asked by the Daily News if he wanted to remain in Los Angeles.

He added that he might consider giving the Lakers a hometown discount.

If he's willing to give the Lakers a discount, I'm positive we're able to keep Ariza as well. Crossing fingers.

I think for LO to stay, a few things has to happen:

1. We win the Championship
2. Kobe Takes a a pay cut, lets say 5/100
3. Arizas contract has to be reasonable

I think the Cavs are gonna make a serious run at LO.

I think the Cavs have bigger fish to consider than LO. somebody who can stand up to Howard so they can get to finals for example.

the cavs don't have the means to make a serious run at LO this summer and i seriously doubt having kobe take a pay cut is how the lakers keep LO. i just don't see a kobe pay cut happening. the ariza contract though, thats going to be a concern. if the lakers win a title though, i think buss bites the bullet for both.

I agree. The cavs need a bigger 2 guard and a muscular brutal center (7-foot plus). They dont necessarily need the skill-set at the 5-spot, but they def need size, muscle, and rebounding -- varejao and Z were soft against Howard. I dont think LO fits any of these discriptions. LO is a 3 or 4 and that is not what they need. I doubt that they throw serious money at LO. Ariza on the other hand is someone they can move to the 3 and bump Lebron down to a 2 guard which he can definitely do. Or they might even turn ariza into a slashing 2 guard. Generally, i would be more worried at the cavs throwing a good amount at Ariza more than LO.

Honestly it's up to Dr. Buss and if he wants to pay the luxury tax over the next few years.

In regards to Kobe, if they win a Chip and he is in a position to take a small paycut to keep the team together and he doesnt. I dont want to hear his mouth about winning no more.

Cavs would have made it to the finals if they had bigger wing players like LO. LO can guard almost every player on the Orlando Magic team by himself. He's that versatile. Just think with LO, Lebron and LO could just switch through picks, The whole reason why Cavs loss that series was because Cavs couldnt stop the pick n roll. With LO, all that would have to do is switch.

Since obviously the Cavs can offer him more money than us (no).

Detroit maybe will consider him. Outside of that I see a return to the Lakers without a doubt. If he leaves though I expect Shaq to be back and for the Lakers to make Gasol a permanent PF.

I don't think the cavs will go for LO, not after that CANDY-HOLIC exerp we saw of him last week lol.

If Kobe takes a pay cut like what he said he will do (kobe is ever changing so we won't know until that day happens), we could have a good chance in keeping both Ariza and LO... but ultimately, i too think that it comes down to getting that Ring. Cuz nobody wants to break up the team and it's chemistry while we're on top do they?

But it's good to know that LO came out and said he's willing to give a discount to the lakers

Cavs are over the cap, so the best they can do is give Odom the MLE. As much as they need to acquire talent every way shape or form they can get them, MLE isn't going to be enough to lure Odom away.

having bird rights to odom is really nice. I doubt any other team will offer him more than 10 mil.. heck if I was a team under the cap I would rather pay ben gordon 10+ mil. And Boozer expressed desire to test free agency so if a team needs a PF they would rather get boozer for just a few mil more than odom. The question is how much is Ariza worth? I hope he doesn't go and start asking for a ton of money.

If and when we win the title, Buss will fork out money to keep all of his core players no matter who it is.
I cant wait till he trades Sasha and Luke for a sack of potatos.

I would be happy if they can do it even by giving up a 2nd round pick. getting rid of those contracts will be a major pain because Sasha is trash even on the worst team. Remember how Smush Parker couldn't even crack the bench minutes on the Heat when they didn't even have Mario Chalmers? Sasha would be in the same situation.

The problem really is Luke and Sasha. Those guys got paid twice what they are worth.

Ariza deserves about 5. Bench players don't. Odom is worth about 8 Bynum is maybe 10, not 12. Gasol and Kobe are paid right.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

This is interesting. He said only an impossible offer would make him sign to any other team. I can see us keeping both Ariza and Odom. We just have to win the title.

I agree if the Lakers win it this year Buss will bite the bullet because he knows in 2-3yrs Sasha and Morrison(if not traded) will be off the books and Walton maybe in a position for the Lakers to trade him.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
