Did Jameer Nelson cost the Magic the Finals?

Nelson comes back after not playing for months. The Magic were on a roll with Rafer. Heck even the line up SVG put up with no point guards was impressive. But SVG having to play Nelson in the 4th and OT help lead to the Magic break down. In OT, I counted 3 consecutive Magic possessions where the Magic did not score. Fisher's first three was over Nelson. Fisher's 2nd three was occurred when Nelson ran into Kobe's elbow. Those two shots were game changers.

If you ask me, bad call to play a guy who's been out not only the whole playoffs but for half the regular season. Nelson, you killed the Lakers in the regular season. I'm glad you didn't in the Finals. Thank you SVG for playing him.

Rafer played the 3rd quarter and Lakers went on a 30-14 run to get a lead after being down 12 in halftime. Then Orlando caught up early in the 4th to take a lead with Nelson in. I think it might have been smarter for SVG to put back Rafer who is rested after like 4 minutes, but I don't think it would have affected the outcome either way. Orlando lost by missed freethrows more than anything.

well, thats part of it. and many of the media folks always bend things in the negative. but as a LAKER fan, i'll tilt it towards the positive. we took last nites game by hitting the big shots and executing down the stretch. we blew them out in game 1. we also took them down in game 2. we almost had game 3 so while some say the magic could very well be up 3-1, heck, we shoulda had a sweep.

true, they made mistakes. bad substitutions as mentioned above with a rusty guy. terrible free throw shooting. but our journey is one of redemption. revenge. taking back what is ours. i like to think that our will to win for 12 whole months is what took this title down. (albeit we still have 1 more to go) and nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING orlando was going to say or do was going to stop us from this quest.

Remember when Fisher missed most of 2001 with foot surgery and then came back and was lights out against San Anton in the WCF and Philly in the Finals

25 of 39 (64%) from 3pt land in 9 games.

Maybe SVG thought he'd get a spark like that from Jameer.

I think it's unfair to say he cost 'em the Finals. The truth of the matter is that the will of the Lakers simply beat out the Magic's will. Orlando has seemed lost this whole series, much like us last year. They've been a great opponent but clearly were no match for us this year just like we weren't ready to knock off Boston last year. Orlando will be a better team next year with a healthy Nelson, my worry is what will happen to Rafer Alston? Anthony Johnson? Tyronn Lue?

Lamar & Pau have hurt Orlando, as has Kobe obviously. Ariza has played magnificently where as Orlando has had their 3 stars play well but not much help after that with the exception of Alston. This is not Orlando's year, simple as that. Dwight is only 24 and Nelson is no more than 26-27 so they'll be ok. Better luck next year cuz this year is our year!

The thing is.. a shoulder surgery is not as easy as an ankle to come back from. Once your ankle is fully healthy, which Fish's was, then you're fine. It's questionable if Nelson's shoulder is even close to 100%, so you have to credit him for that.

One of the greatest things I've still seen to this day; Lamar Odom playing through a torn labrum, no surgery, playing well in the playoffs against Phoenix. That was remarkable when you look back at it.

i would say an ankle injury is worse than shoulder. you gotta run on them 2 feet all day :D they better be healthy. ex) mihm. the dude effed up his ankle and never recovered after that

Saying Jameer Nelson cost the Magic the series is HIGHLY discrediting Derek Fisher's big shots, and the Lakers as a team to comeback from behind and take it in OT (twice I might add).

It is what it is.

Jameer wouldn't be playing if SVG never put him in the game...

Jameer has been doing a pretty good job facillitating ball movement. He missed a couple assignments in plays set up by his coach that were questionable to begin with.

Not Nelson's fault...

Howard carries just as much blame as Jameer and Fish...

To say you guys practically almost swept the series is an incredibley arogant statement. If anything the Magic practically went up 3-1 in this series. Game 2 - a layup away from beating you guys. Game 3- magic win. Game 4- Dwight Howard and Turkologu just simply missed free throws. Yes,Fish was clutch. However, if Howard makes his free throws, you guys are still down by 2 there and the Magic are right back on the free throw line to put it away.

They would have lost anyway... Even if they had a healthy Nelson from the start.

No because the Lakers had this either way

they should have brought him back in game 3

SVG didnt handle it well AT ALL

I wouldn't be surprised if Alston and Anderson want a trade

It probably cost the Magic an extra win in the series. Alston won game 3 for the Magic and then he to show his gratitude, SVG benched him brilliant

How many of these fools picked the Cavs to beat Orlando, the Nuggets to beat the Lakers. ESPN is full of bandwagon guys. They only pick the teams that are winning impressively or are hot. If only they took the time to weigh the match-ups and other tangibles would they be able to make a more objective decision. Knowing how much they promote Lebrick (sore loser) It pissed me off when they picked the Lakers. GTFO ESPN you are not welcomed to our parade.
