if yao is out the 1st half of the season, i'd expect bynum to be voted the starter. he came in 3rd behind shaq and yao last yr.

Don't drink the koolaid - did you see the playoffs? He has trouble staying on the court. Yao is better if not hurt. Okur at 17 pts 7 rebounds for a playoff team is better... I would put him in the next tier with Kaman, Nene (15pt, 8 rebs) and before Camby.

If he can prove he can stay out of foul trouble, and healthy for a full year he moves up, but until then - no.

We need to see improvement from Bynum before saying he is the best in the west. Okur, Kaman and Camby have all proved to be better, imo. Bynum has the potential (there goes that word being thrown around again) to be the best next season but as of right now, he is not.

in the portland game, it kinda showed that he wasnt even the best center in the game. oden showed some versatility and quickness that of course bynum wasnt up to at that point. so alot of it depends on how he improves in those areas of his game this new year.

True center-wise is does rank up there since true centers are scarce these days. But his performance in the post season was horrible. Not sure if it was only me but he seemed lazy and when guys pass him he just opted for the slashing at the opponent or slamming his arms at the opponent.

If you're talking about bynum before eh hem his contract signing and/or before his injury then yearh i would put him way up there...

He isn't even the best center on the Lakers let alone the West... In my opinion, you have to take Amare and TD into consideration as well...

if anyone goes by the almighty PER, bynum was 7th among centers last yr. without yao and shaq, and with pau returning to pf next to bynum, and if duncan is listed as a forward again, bynum is only behind al jefferson. throw in the defense factor that jefferson is awful at if he's playing center, and bynum has a legit argument.

I don't know if Bynum can be truly judged yet but their is no way Bowie is better than Bynum and Portland knows they made a huuuuuge mistake.

Take out the tweeners that are and should be listed as a PF on the all-star ballots. Duncan will not be listed as a center. I expect Bynum to put up 17 and 10 since he is healthy and has shaken the rust off.

Gasol, Stoudemire, and Duncan are better than Bynum, but will be listed as Power Forwards. Bynum will be on the All-Star starting ballot not necessarily because he is the best center in the West, but because Shaq is in the East and Yao is injured. Chris Kaman won't be too good next season because he's coming off an injury, likewise Al Jefferson. Bynum will win the starting spot via elimination. Lol. Oh wait, there's Nene. He might be on the starting ballot. Can you imagine if the whole West Conference All-Star starters are just Lakers and Nuggets?

I understand that this is a Laker board and that Portland and LA don't like each other...but I mean can you really make fun of Oden for being injured all the time when Bynum has missed the last 2 half seasons with knee injuries...I mean isn't that a little hypocritical :lol:

I also don't understand where all the bust talk is coming from , not just from Lakers fans, but fans in general..I mean the dude averaged 15/13 per 40 mins as a rookie. His problem was that he couldn't stay on the floor, not that he wasn't producing when he was out there. I guess maybe if you got caught up in the hype of expecting him to enter the NBA as the next Russell/Robinson right out of the gate...

I for one am hoping well see some good Oden/Bynum battles over the next 10 years.
