COULD A.I. HELP THE LAKERS?

Post#1 » by my2bits » Wed Jul 1, 2009 12:02 am

I know this one is controversial but i couldn't help it. iverson is after all a very good player who wants to win it all. i have always appreciated his grit and determination. something the lakers will need to repeat. go ahead, let me have it...

no way, we dont need a player that does not sacrifice for the team, for the ring, it´s funny that iverson says he would do anything to win a ring, but the first time he come off the bench he says the he prefers to retire then to com off the bench, that for me says that he dosen´t really wanna win...

Nice idea but Iverson is a ballhog. The Lakers already have enough offense. What they need at the PG position is a distrubtor. I think Kidd, Miller, Robinson are all better options for the MLE at PG. Iverson as a last resort. And I wouldn't want the Lakes to sign anyone until Odom/Ariza are back in the fold.

Nope............we don't need him. It's not all about scoring this is something you young guys gotta learn.

No.

If Ariza plays hard ball or someone offers him something out of this world...alternative plan, MLE Kidd, LLE Gerald Green.

cmmon guys. if you guys think nate robinson can help us

scoring iverson is >>> robinson

defense iverson is > robinson

experience iverson>>>robinson

and iverson can play the point better than nate

after we take care of our own free agents(odom, ariza) if he's willing to sign here for cheap, if hes willing to come off the bench, why not?

iverson is too established to be a role player.

knowing how to be a role player robinson >>>>> iverson

well...

I knew this topic would recieve the full gamut of responses but i'm not sure that iverson is still a ball hog. in his stint in denver he took far fewer shots and more or less conceded pecking order to melo'. in detroit he couldn't fit in with an older team full of stubborn players(yes they got flip saunders fired) and a rookie head coach. a rookie head coach? with sheed? with iverson? detroit was doomed from the first. the reason he complained about not starting is because ... he was the best player on the team.
I still think that iverson truly wants to win and i believe he can help the lakers. scoring is not what i had in mind. it's the experience that he would bring. it's the passion. the lakers have never had a pg who struck fear in the opposing team (besides magic) and instead of putting a shaky and inconsistant farmar in the big games, you have a tested vet and former mvp. one more thing, if LA does wind up getting him he will take the starting job from every one else any way. One thing you can't say with any conviction is that iverson has been the reason why his teams have failed . they failed because they were not good enough.

All good points my2bits. It's a possibility that he just didn't fit in Detroit. If he can come here and distribute the ball as opposed to shooting the ball then sure. But I wouldn't take the AI from last year.

Yes, Iverson under the direction of Phil Jackson. Wow, just wow. You'd be suprise at the change a player can make under the greatest coach of all time. Remember what Phil has done to MJ, Rodman, Shaq and Kobe, then Kobe, Odom. All had their little attitudes or issues and he has the ability to resolve and restructure. I say yes.

I don't think so and his attitude like Marbury's needs to go back to the playground and play one on one where they are the hero. They are me first and I think winning doesn't mean more than their stats. He helped the Pistons from Eastern Conf champs to being sent home for the playoffs, that say's it all their.

Iverson can help us by signing elsewhere.

I agree with the majority of the posters here. He can help by signing on to a different team and having them implode from the inside due to his inability to become a selfless roleplayer.

I would probably only be interested in him as a replacement for Farmar/Sasha. If he could be happy with that role and not disrupt the locker room and chemistry I would love to have him.

I wouldn't use the full mid-level on him though, I'd offer him the veteran's minimum, worst case scenario is he turns it down.

Overall though I think it's just too much risk for not enough reward.

he's in the rapid decline phase, he was never a team player, he really isn't a defender so much as a matador steal artist, and he quit on his team last year because he didn't get what he wanted. Injury my ass.

he's bad apple, a baby... Look what he did in detroit. He literally gave up on the team. That's just emo to me. ridiculous... anyways if he does a gary payton or a karl malone where he'll take a vets contact that sure why not.. But i doubt he would do that...
