free agency starts tonight so might as well get a thread going where we can discuss all the moves going on and how they affect the players the lakers target and the competition the lakers face.
first news:
- villanueva does not get offered the QO from the bucks, becomes a UFA
- carlos boozer won't opt out. neither will okur.
- jason kidd meeting up with cuban then the knicks as soon as free agency starts in NY.
- amare says he doesn't want to go to GS.
- detroit fires curry so that they can be more attractive to FA's. the rip between curry and rip was too much to overcome.

I know its no going to happen but I think we really need to sign, Ariza, Odom and Artest. Artest would be the starter at SF and we would be able to put Ariza and Odom back on the bench. Wishful thinking I know.

It's a nice idea but how would you get Artest?

Source: Lee Leaving New York
A source told Ken Berger that he believes David Lee's days as a Knick are over. Agent Mark Bartelstein will reportedly have Lee sign an offer sheet with the Grizzlies or Thunder that the Knicks will not be willing to match.
"It's a tough loss for New York, but they don't want to screw up their 2010 plan," the source said.
If this is true It means New York is really committed to saving money, and farmar + fillers for nate + jefrries is possible.

Having a spark plug like little nate coming off the bench would be nice.

I agree entirely. I think trading for Nate and signing Kidd to the MLE is the best way to go. We have to get something for the MLE that improves this team. All the other title contenders are making moves and the Lakers need to keep up.

trading for nate AND signing kidd to the mle. i think some people are seriously unaware of the financial frugality that is about to be displayed by the lakers.

They would cut some salary by in a trade for Nate. Kidd to the MLE is the only tough one to bite.

We're not doing anything in free agency unless one of Lamar or Trevor leaves. In that case, I'd anticipate a sign and trade.

NYK is emptying the ship and Lebron and Bosh are gonna land their in 2010 IMO. It is just setting up for those two. I saw a source on wiretap say they have a deal verbally w/ each other to go to the Knicks. Sounds good enough to me if the Lakers' can scoop Nate in the fire sale.

I think...
David Lee to the Grizz
Millsap to the Thunder
Villanueva to the Cavs

Varejeo not feeling the LBJ and Shaq love he is gone and leaves Cavs' a little shorthanded. Now they have to use MLE to get another starter in their. They got Shaq, lbj, big Z, Mo williams, D Gibson, D West and JJ Hickson making 68 million. They kinda need a 2G, and PF w/ MLE and LLE money. Good luck suckers.

Espn, is reporting that Ben Gordon is close to going to the Pistons which would cut down the suitors for both Lakers' players big time. I hope they get him.

Odom is looking for $10MM 4 year extension. I don't think the Lakers will match if he receives such an offer. Also I think Ariza is looking for $8MM per as well.
