O.T. If u can create/change any NBA RULES....
If you can change/create any NBA rules what would it be? We all know that us fans cant stand some of these calls or rules, so I want to hear it. Let your voice be heard!

*Just in case you want to look over some of the rules.
1. I would love to create a fine/technical for flopping. Yeah I know its hard to judge, but if we had NBA officials review tape after games, and fine players who flopped, NBA players would man up more and take REAL charges...
But of coarse it would be very rare to see an NBA rule like this get implemented, but it would be nice if there was a system to limit the flops.

Re: O.T. If u can create/change any NBA RULES....
The 5 second rule
In FIBA: Closely Guarded player - When a player holds the ball (not dribbles) and is closely guarded (within 1 meter and actively defending) the ballhandler may not hold the ball for more than 5 seconds; to do so is a violation.
I would also like to add the dribbling scenario of the 5 second violation(NCAA type). Once crossing half court, any player that puts the ball on the floor has 5 seconds to either shoot or pass the ball up. So if a player holds the ball and is being closely defended the official begins the 5 second count, but once that player puts the ball on the floor then the official begins a new 5 second count.
This rule will obviously take away from the individual marketing scheme of the NBA. Implementing this rule will shift the game play towards more teamwork. The majority of the fans will disagree with the 5 second rule due to the fact that they LOVE watching a superstar dominate/takeover a game. If the 5 second rule were involved the fans would rarely get to see the superstar score during isolation plays. And one more thing, this rule will greatly affect Lebron and Wade because they don't have a pull up jumper, nor do they know how to score off ball situations unlike Kobe and Durant

No more And 1s on made basket , just count the fouls. Some of these And 1 calls are so late that u can go make coffee on the pump fake and come back to hear the whistle.
No more than 3 defensive players on one quarter of the court unless there are more than 3 offensive players in that quarter. This will force the lane to open up and prevent overloading defense which essentially takes away driving lane.

I wish we could have like "Challenge a Play" like in football, depending on how many timeouts we have..and the refs would review the play and if it stands then we lose a timeout..because there is alot of BS calls that happen that make me want to punch the T.V...I guess that would take longer but it's worth it!

Instead of the refs getting together to talk about who has possession of the ball..they should review the play then decide!

1. Imagine having power plays with penalty box like in hockey in the nba. That would really force artest to behave.. lol.
2 . Make the half court shot 4pts instead - imagine a player with 4pt 30-40% stat rating LOL.

when diving for a loose ball, no calling timeouts when its clear you don't have possession.

Re: O.T. If u can create/change any NBA RULES....
this is the easiest decision. Get rid of the block/charge calls. No one can tell the difference between a block and a charge anymore especially with all the flopping.
So just don't CALL anything!

Allow Phil Jackson to bitch slap Joey Crawford at least once during a game if he makes a stupid call against the Lakers.

Re: O.T. If u can create/change any NBA RULES....
1) Flopping must get penalized much harder. Why not let it be league-reviewed and why not hand out fines, like someone suggested? It's against the most basic idea of any honorable form of competition. Book them cheating girlies hard, next season, Stern! That goes for you, too, Sasha. If there is one thing I hate more than opponents flopping, it would be when our own players do it.
2) Coach's Challenge, video review as in the NFL, where video must provide substantial reason to overturn challenged referee decision. Maybe one referee challenge per team and 24 minutes? This way here, no playoffs game will ever have to be decided by an incorrect referee call, again.
3) Create a rule that forces Bynum to pull the chair at least twice, every game.
Imagine what effect that would have on our defense — if all opposing centers felt uneasy about playing him too deep. Kobe and Artest would swipe the ball lose all night long, and even if not, it would still help us to dominate the defensive glass.
Jokes aside, I think that there are many other things they could/should do to refine the game in the near future, but 1) and 2) are the two by far most pressing ones to me. There has been a lot of good suggestions in this thread. I like that FIBA 5 second rule a whole lot.

4) Create a Lakers coaching staff rule that forces Bynum to learn how to spin around his defender when boxed out, and he must do it on every Laker shot that goes up. If he doesn't, he gets benched.
If he did this all night, he could easily get somewhere between 6 and 8 put-backs per game. Those shots would be at very high FG% (75+), and would also bring him 6 to 8 extra offensive boards a game. All he has to do is to spin around a la Shaquilla, then gobble up and dunk the rebound.
