Ammo is expiring so he could be trade bait. Hoping to get a decent PG to replace Fisher when he retires.

The FO almost let Odom walk over money. You really think there gonna try and take Kirk's deal to?
i don't think they want to spend the money on a pg or they would have kept Tony Douglas or whatever his name is instead of trading him.

I don't think the FO was really going to let Odom walk away for money reasons. They were sincere with their initial offers, but Odom spat in their face and they got mad. When they saw that there was no market for Odom, they simply made a calculated business decision to low ball Odom. It was a good business decision and taught Odom and other players a lesson about not messing with the FO.

If it greatly improves the teams chances of winning a championship now, why not? It would take a several years to develop a young player into someone that can be really productive. The Lakers traded away their picks because they don't have that time. The window of opportunity to win more championships is NOW.

Anyone notice that the 5 best teams in the league have the 5 highest payrolls. I threw Utah out because they will be sheding Boozer's contract soon. With LO's signing the lakers payroll is going to be 91-93 mil. What an incredible figure when the cap is in the high 50's.

Well I would love to add Kirk but I don't see it. i could see adding a cheap veteran pg one who wants to just jump on for a championship at a deal. I know this year I don't think the Bulls are just gonna give us Kirk. Everybody hates us. There are other expiring contracts and people have better picks to give. We don't have much to offer.
im just saying it's not very realistic.

Kirk, Kobe, Artest would be a defensive nightmare for teams. To make things worse Gasol and Bynum would be there with LO getting time in there as well. I would love to see how this team would be defensively with Kirk. Kirk/Kobe/Artest/Gasol/Bynum would be the best starting 5 in the NBA. Phil would probably wind up letting Fish start though so that he could strengthen our bench. Over on the general board most people think that the Lakers have the weakest bench out of the elite teams. Kirk and Lamar running the bench would make people think differently about our bench.

Getting a little greedy aren't we?
A move for a PG isn't coming. Our two most important pieces, Kobe and Pau, will need to get hooked up again soon and I don't expect Buss to commit to another 8+million dollar player.
We traded Rad for the Ammo contract to give us flexibility in paying LO down the road (and Artest). Not as a trading chip.
As we stand, the core of this team is Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Odom, and Artest.
Everybody else from here on out will be a cheap, short contracts (a la Shannon Brown and Josh Powell)...and that is more than enough to get the job done.

Exactly. Those 5 guys and basically 8 min players will be the squad. It's o.k. though because Kobe Bryant is in a way the best pg ever and Odom is a point forward and Artest is also a playmaker. Don't need a pg.
