our team is stacked for the next few years and players wise we will be alright, but what about coaching wise?

Phils contract is up next summer, he is getting old and his health might be an issue. so what happens if he retires?

what coach will be able to handle Artest and still get us a chip? Rambis?

if Phil does retire who would you like and who will be available?

Matt Money Smith on klac was talking about this on the first hour of their broadcast today.

He's spent quite a bit of time around the Lakers the past few years and he thinks that most of the players really like Rambis.

Rambis has worked directly with Odom, Fisher, Bynum, etc. and almost everyone really likes him.

According to what Matt Smith was saying, however, Kobe and Rambis don't exactly love eachother. I don't know if its a dislike from both parties or to what extent it really is.

So, hypothetically if that is true, and Phil quit after next season, the Lakers FO would have to choose between a guy the other 11 seem to really like, and a candidate Kobe would push for.

Rambis of course might get the Minnesota job and this wouldn't matter anyways, but its an interesting question with Kobe's contract extensions coming up.

The Lakers have proven in the past that they make better decisions without Kobe being involved, but in this case, would they lean towards a candidate of Kobe's liking?

If we did go outside the organization...I'd try to persue Rick Adelman probably. Great offensive mind, lots of experience, and has made it work with ron ron.

Brian Shaw is the next laker coach. ive had this feeling since the end of the regular season when he started stepping up in huddles more than Phil or anyone else did. anyone else see shaw coaching us?

the one head coach that always comes up is byron scott. i think he's completely out of the picture with these set of guys. he's too strict to flow with a veteran championship team.

Didn't Popovic say he should be fired if the Spurs don't win the chip?

1. Larry Brown
2. Byron Scott
3. Michael Cooper
4. Kurt Rambis

All I know is scotts contract is up when phils is. I don't know about Brown tho....

I'd take any of the following coaches in no particular order:

-Byron Scott
-Larry Brown
-Rick Adelman
-Kurt Rambis
-Brian Shaw

I'd rather go with with a Laker assistant before anybody else though.

Interesting to read thanks. I didn't know Kobe and Kurt didn't see eye to eye.

Byron Scott would be a good fit.

I would think unless a pg emerges meaning a real pg there gonna keep it inhouse in the triangle. I would expect it to be Brian Shaw. He's perfect. Rick Adelman is another really good option though.

Somebody said Larry Brown. He's posion, you don't want him. Somebody with the triangle experience and Shaw has it but also if available Byron Scott does make some sence. Although I really like Paul Silas. Where is he?

WHAT........."too strict" ? Byron would be Kobe's first choice, plus Byron's adapted the rigid style because his team is in a learning how to win mode. That's the difference, you have to be strict with teams with no knowledge of knowing how to win. Teams that know how to win consistently only need to be poked and prodded every once in a while, much like Phil show's you guys. Byron being a guy who's won titles can relate with this group better than his own team.

There's a reason Byron didn't have to wait long after the Nets got foolish and fired him because of Ason Kidd, he's a great communicator, understands the game very well, has been a winner, and can coach his ass off.

Better him than Rambis.

Do you guys think Phil's health can keep it up.

Honestly I believe the half ass coaching thing can work. Just coaching the home games, Can you think of a better way to also try out his assistants and see who the best is? That way Phil can coach for years. Thing is he would probably have to take less money.

I like B. Shaw but from reading his quotes I don't know if he has a strong enough personality to make it as a head coach.
