how the F did we survive the 05-06 season

Post#1 » by chefy » Tue Sep 1, 2009 12:06 am

looking back how did we manage to get 45 wins with smush and brown as a pointguard and center
and I can remember mitch saying we were actualy ahead of the schedule, that year was suppose to be part of are rebuilding mode but we ended up getting 45 wins and we made the playoffs

45 win team in a very tough western conference

we took the suns in 7 games (almost defeated them) , with smush parker guarding PRIME STEVE NASH

we lose are starting center 2nd half of the season

we dont have a 2nd pointguard

we have very weak bench; george, cook, sasha, mckie,

our 8 men rotation; george, cook, sasha, mckie, lol

it makes me wanna puke when I look at are roster at that time, Kobe should have been the mvp!!!

kobe being kobe, lamar doing his thing and becoming a superstar in the playoffs, and luke was earning his future contract.

These were the seasons that I felt I earned my stripes as a Laker fan. It would have been easy to jump off the bandwagon, but instead I grew to love them even more.

Yuuuuuuuuup

Dont even get me started about that season and the Suns.

If I remember correctly, I got warned porbably well over 4 times and I got suspended twice on their board that season. ( I was new)  Since then I have learned to bite my tounge a lot more than I did before.

All I can remember is that I couldnt stand the Suns and their fans, all I heard about was Kobe and his trials, how we aint ish without Shaq, and that our time was over. Every loss broke my heart. I remember when they came back and took the serious it was like I got my ass kicked by a little kid with one arm and a leg. I hate watching Smush and Kwame, I can recall I was so sick to my stomach that I couldnt even eat for a couple of days after we lost to them in the playoffss. I felt like that was my worst and lowest point of being a Laker fan. I wanted to fly over to Phnx and woop every phnx arse for what we were going through.

I never wanted to see them succeed, I loved watching them lose after we lost to them.
Im not going to lie, I hated Suns fans more than any other fan cause they were all arrogant lame and every post was about how Nash was a victim and the league was cheating them out of their titles and that every year was their year, and that the Spurs are a dirty team. And to top it off they gave Nash the MVP over Kobe and Lebron.

I think by far Suns are the Boston Redsox of basketball before they won their first world series. I dont think they will ever win a title. I think the OKC will win a title before they will, but you know what Karmas a itch. All that talk comes back oneway or another. All the garbage their fans were talking about us and our fans came back yet again to bite them in the arse. Not even 2 years after that we went back to the finals and 3 years after that we won a title, and they are still looking for a coach and a leader with the hopes of making it to the playoffs.

This post goes out to ALL THE SUNS FANS that talked down to us during that year. Now tell me how does it feel to know we got 15 and you guys are still on 0.

Ya I might come across as an arrogant Laker fan, and most of you guys know dam well Im not, but only a handfull of you guys know what we went through those years from the Suns fans. So forgive me if I like to rubb in the titles.

Was going to mention P-Jax myself, I figured at the time he would be good for 9-10 more wins. We went from 34 to 45.........so he exceeded his quota. The man is a legend.

I wonder what if mihm didn't get injured. he was a decent center before he got hurt. we probably could have finished the season with a bit more wins and have beaten the suns too.

I broke my tv controller and my computer keyboard in the lakers suns series alone . Up to this day, that 3 pointer by Tim Thomas in game 6 still upsets me quite a bit. We were so damn close to the second round and maybe even the WCF, as we were better than the Clips that year imo. And with the way Kobe owned the Mavs, we might even make the Finals!!

Ugh that TIm Thomas 3 Killed me... all we had to do was guard the 3pt line!!! I was so mad.... We had it...

Sad thing is that would have been legend for Kobe, kinda negated his game winners, and I agree we could have beaten the clips and maybe the Mavs too, maybe even the Heat if we got there, they were not that great of a team and with Kobe guarding young Wade... That could have written Kobe's legend all over the place.... imo Kobe should have 3 MVPs, that year and the 03 team where Shaq missed like 20 games, everyone else missed 10-15 games, Fox and Horry were washed up, fish was broken down, Kobe scored like 40 for an entire month and carried the team to 50 wins and averaged 30 7 7...

Damn you Tim Thomas... damn you...

I know! That shot by Thomas is burned in my mind forever

I love how Kobe gets knocked for that season even though he was amazing that year and other players (Wade) get sympathy during their great years on mediocre teams.

Kobe went ape **** right since Mihm went down. That was the first season he developed a me vs the world mentality and it was terribly exciting to watch even when Kwame used to drop passes, miss dunks and Smush was actually decent that season.

06 - 07 was truly embarrassing though.

Yeah I wish we did beat the Suns. We were so damn close. The Clippers would have been easy. Kobe woulda had to be very clutch against the Mavs in order to knock them out. He would have took over games and tried to do mostly everything alone. Against the Mavs he was great at doing so that year.

I'm not sure if he could have beat the Heat. Had he done so he would have beat Wade and kept Shaq from winning a ring. Could you imagine people saying Shaq can't win without Kobe    Shaq and his giant ego would explode. Kobe would have done it with his team and pretty much all alone. The things it would have done for his legacy would have been great. Taking a scrub team like that all the way to the Finals and winning would have earned Kobe so much respect from even non Laker fans and I'm sure most people would have talked about how it was one of the greatest individual playoff performances ever. Most people outside Lakers and Suns fans won't even remember what Kobe did to the Suns with those buzzer beaters.

It was sad that they couldn't close that series out. Overall at the end of the day, it still amazes me to just how good that Lakers team was with players that are out of the league at the moment or fighting for garbage minutes to date.

Great coaching, and Kobe Bryant. That's all it was.

Smush was good 05-06! 06-07 was when he blew ass.

remember he set up game 4 OT vs the suns in '06. LA was down 5 and Smush had to take a balls out 3 that then set up the Nash tie-up and Kobe's weird high-riser shot.

Whats funny is haters never seem to give P.J his props on his ten titles since they claim that he has always had it easy with all the superstars on his team, but it just proves what a great coach he is by taking a sorry boat full of scrubs to 45 games and almost to the second round.
