O.T. Mayo/Iverson/Gay trio Vs Lakers Trio....

With the recent acquisition of Allen Iverson to the Memphis Grizzles, I really believe that they currently have a very decent NBA lineup. Call me crazy, but I think the Memphis Grizzles have a slim chance of making the playoffs this year. I think this is a great move by Memphis, and I also think that if you compared the Lakers top 3 players, against Memphis top 3 players, it isnt a very uneven matchup. Don't get me wrong I am not saying Memphis could beat the top tiers in the NBA, but they can sure challenge the Utah, Phoenix, Houston if their team stays healthy and if Randolph/Iverson can provide leadership to this growing team. Maybe random thoughts are going through my head since its 2AM, but just was thinking about the what ifs with Memphis....what do u guys think?

Guard- mayo 19 PPG
Forwardrudy gay 19 PPG
Forward Randolph 20 PPG
Center gasol 11 PPG

it looks good on paper, but I dont know if you notice they are all scorers iverson, mayo, randolph, gay. not only that, they're low efficient scorers...they shoot a lot to score.

AI can still put up 18-25pts a night, no problem.

I figure he'll average 22pts in 38 mins if he gets enough touches.

Mayo can be a better player w/ all the attention AI creates/draws; ~18pts easy. (Kobe helped him before, so I expect him to score with ease)

Gay is a question mark imo, I think he'll be able to put up 15-18pts though.

Z-Bo should be able to put up 16pts easy... his problem has never been scoring, at least not to me.

Gasol? Pau's bro will be just fine. More experience and minutes means better production. Don't be surprised if he drops 14-16pts if he gets enough touches.

Overall they have a nice team.

If AI's the captain, don't be surprised if they are a playoff team next year.

Mayo is a rising star and Pau's brother will be tough to handle.

Gay is solid.

Zach is their X-Factor... if Zach plays up to his potential, or at least 70% of it... WATCHOUT.

That's all I'd like to add for now.

Feel free to chime in and talk about competition.

Hopefully they can avoid us in the playoff so we don't have to destroy them until the conference finals.

Better yet, lets make a trade for AI before the trading deadline!

I want to full clip before the playoffs start.

And I'd like it to be known that we're going to come out GUNZ BLAZING!

Because all this Laker team really needs/wants is an All-Star calibur/potential starting PG to seal the deal.

I can only imagine Mayo and A.I throwing blows at each other during the game about who should be the 1st option, meanwhile FAT BOY Zach is standing on the sideline eating a donut and Marc Gasol is standing there fixing his hair in the mirror. Ya lets just call it a season.

You forgot about conley, greg odin's son.

Baby Thor can really blossom under AI and become a much more capable scorer.

And there' s of course MIlicic (I think) to bring the help defense from the low block.

And I think I'm forgetting another player... oh yeah, Hakim Warrick.

They got a nice core.

Offense will be readily available.

Well usually you have to come to practice first where you actually work on defense and we know A.I love to practice.

up and coming team, but Iverson isn't the Answer anymore.

He'll be a distraction, prolly hinder the development of Mayo and Gay this season but they'll still prolly make the playoffs. I think Houston is going to slip depending on injuries. But I see them trading AI away for players or draft picks later on, not a long term solution for them IMO.

They are taking time away from there young players to try to make the fans come and see there team. AI is a cancer and in time he will kill that team.

This is a very good lineup. A lot of you are talking about "too much offense and no defense". Let me remind you that Gay has put on some bulk to be able to bang around with the SF's of the league. I believe he will be much more improved defensively.

You are all forgetting about HASHEEM THABEET!!! i guaran-damn-tee you all that this guy is going to impact the league defensively! Maybe not so much this year, but he is going to be a defensive force in this league. I believe the reason why they pulled the trigger on "all-offense-no-deffense" iverson is because of thabeet's defensive presense in the low post.

With Thabeet in practice, look for M.Gasol to get stronger mentally and fortitude-wise...this usually translates into better defense. If you are willing to put you body on the line, you will do a better job defensively down low.`

lets not forget about the leadership of Stackhouse
and also that underrated rookie Sam Young... Sam young is one hell of a strong ass junkyard dog ==>defense.

Look... call it when you see it, this team is going to the playoffs next yr. period.

Thanks Frantik.... not too many believers out there, but I agree hundred percent, Memphis makes that 8th roster spot. They got too much talent not too. Look at Iversons Phili Roster when he took them to the championship against the Lakers, Memphis has a better roster squad than that team!
