Weakest Link on the Lakers???

I'm an optimist, not a pessimist but I DO believe most championship caliber teams either win it all or don't based on their weakest link.
I think our weakest link is PG.
Do you guys feel good about the 1 guard position w/ Fish/Brown/Farmar/Sasha?
Do you guys think Fish will hold up???
What will happen if our 36 year old gets an injury?
IIf you are a fan of another team secretly reading all the posts on the Laker boards, this thread may give you some hope. The Lakers however will snatch that hope along when they win another chip.

I agree with your choices in players besides brown. If fish and sasha cant knock down open shots spoon fed by kobe or pau they are basically worthless. Fish cant make a layup but can get you the ocassional charging call and makes his ft's. Sasha gets a foul called on him 50ft away from the rim seemingly every game in the first minute he steps on the floor and does the praying act. Farmar has his speed but gets bodied easily from the larger pg's. Brown is the only guy that fits the bill. he FINISHes layups, knocks down fts, 3's, defensive mined and big bodied....yes he was that good for us.

I think our weakest link is PG.
Was it tough choosing between Kobe, Gasol, Artest, Bynum and Fisher? And how long did it take you to figure this out?

Past weak Links:Deaven George
Brian Cook
Kwame Brown
Smush Parker
Slava Medvedenko
Kareem Rush
Chris Mihm
Current weak Links:Sasha Vujacic
I would say Jordan but he has more positives than negatives as long as he's focused and doesnt force the issue.

With no handchecking, and the game's new rules, is there any point guard who can really "lock down?"

Hey man, you got your screename changed? Lucky SOB.
But yeah, clearly Sasha IMO. He's a 3pt specialist and if the 3's don't fall he's pretty much rendered useless. And the 3's aren't falling.

Yes Fish is past his prime, and has noticeably slowed down, but really its a team game, so the defense doesn't hinge on one person but it is rather a summation of the whole. Also, all the intangibles that Fish brings to the game tends to enhance those around him.
That being said, I would say our weakest player with regard to contribution to the team is Ammo - taking into account his salary, and the log jam at small forward, i just don't think he can contribute because he would have a hard time keeping up with the 2's in the league on defense.

The bench has LO and a young PG in Farmar that has the potential to be a starting PG if he shuts his mouth and plays to his strength; I have no doubt the good Mitch will move Ammo's expiring ass if he doesn't produce before the all star break

I think in terms of determining the weakest link you first need to work out what the player is expected to bring to the table. I mean Fisher is really only supposed to hit the open shot.. keep the ball moving and play adequate D while on the other hand Bynum is supposed to be a starter who can play offense at a high level, maintain consistent defence, stay out of foul trouble etc. Don't get me wrong I think Bynum is going to turn out to be what everyone hopes for

but untill he does he is the weakest link because something is actually expected of him and if he breaks it will have the most significant impact upon the team.

Easily it's Sasha but I see others are still on the Bynum crack list. It's hard to say Fish because he still hits big shots. Also Luke is not too high on my list either.

Not on a crack list mate.. I am one of his biggest supporters and think he will develop into more than most people are expecting! However I am just saying if he did fail to progress this year it would likely be a weak link to the team seeing as we are going to have to deal with Shaq, Garnett etc!

Ya thats great and all of fisher but had he made at least shot 40%fg it wouldnt have come to that. Let his man take him off the dribble at ease = pau and ab in foul trouble totally distorts the game.

If the weakest link made 40% he wouldn't be the weakest link.
You can have that all day, I'll just take 1 - but make it the right one.

Fish is a weak link as a starter. As a 6th man, spot minutes guy he is an invaluable leader, clutch and level headed. If Kobe is our engine, he is our heart.
Doesn't mean he should be playing any more than 30mpg though. He will lose his value.

I love Fish....
He has been here forever and I was upset when he left for a few years. Its so cool he & Kobe play together and even though Fish isn't even near Kobes level as Lakers they are equal leaders.
I just hope that Fish & Brown don't slow down. Its good that IF they do Farmar is SO MONEY HUNGRY he might have a great season.
I have a theory that if you get 10 guys that are ALL on contract years and they had a mid level elite team like the Mavs, Nuggets, Magic or Cavs, that the team would win it all. Players step up their game in contract years. Even on the Lakers look at Sasha & Luke. They had a great year. Ariza had a great year.
NEWays Go Lakers and stay up 1 guard. (I hope we trade Ammo + Farmar + filler and 2nd round picks for a great combo guard that isn't being used properly).

For me it's hard to call somebody a weak link let alone the weakest link when they are dominating the league at the time their teammates keep injuring them.

Let me tell you right now, that theory is too inconceivable to become reality. If you had 10 guys in contract years that team would go NO WHERE period. They'd be too concerned with their own agendas they couldn't give a team effort. It doesn't take genius to figure that out.
You gotta get out of the notion that just because a guy is in a contract year that he's just automatically going to turn it on. That's not always the case, I've seen many guys fail to produce in contract years and end up having to settle for less than they thought they would make.
