The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent guard Thomas Kelati, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released. Kelati, a 6-5 guard out of Washington State, spent last season playing for Unicaja in Spain where he averaged 11.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 22.5 minutes. Prior to his stint in Spain, Kelati played for BOT Turow Zgorzelec (Poland-DBL) for two seasons (2006-08) where he helped lead the team to consecutive Polish league finals appearances. As a member of Zorzelec, Kelati appeared in 77 games, averaging 15.43 points and 2.96 rebounds. Kelati started his professional career in Belgium in 2005, playing for Dexia Mons-Hainaut.

He played for Unicacca so that's good. He's probably better than long hair'd Sasha, but now medium lengthy hair sasha is here to be the semi-machine again.

Always fun to see something come out of the blue to make a team better. Some player wants to be traded and a team tries to go after that player. If the Lakers could add some kind of upgrade to the roster. That would make us even more dangerious.

Hi there. Even though I'm not a supporter of your team, I'm very happy to see Kelati in LA uniform. I can assure you that he is a great shooter. My hometown team played versus Turow Zgorzelec in the Polish Basketball League finals and won three times in a row. Kelati was absolutely one of the 2 best players in the field that time in Turow team. He and David Logan scored lots of points each game and they shot from the NBA range. He's not very athletic, but he can shoot and find himself a good position. He seems capable of running a counterattack, but defense may pose some problems. Overall I would compare him to Maurice Evans when he first came to the league, but I only say it about the time he spent in the PBL. Anyway, he works hard and the fans always liked him, so you should be satisfied if he finally gets a spot in your team. Good luck to Thomas!

Kelati has been playing for Unicaja last year so I've seen him plenty times, and frankly... I think you could have done better

I'm confused, did we sign this guy or not, this link says another team in Europe signed him. "Pro club Olympiakos have declared the signing up of American defender and forward Thomas Kelati through their functionary web site."

Knowing there's no Kobes Bryants out there, Alex Acker comes to my mind. Better player with more experience and a better shot. Would have been a good fit in the triangle

Kelati signed with Olympiakos ages ago, but was released after failing his physical. They replaed him with Von Wafer.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
