Just chatting w/ some buddies and maybe this has been said already but BIG UPS to Mitch
Look at the last 3 key Laker key acquisitions:
1) Brian Cook (Mo filler) for Ariza THEN Ariza swap for Artest -> Brian Cook for Artest
2) Kwame Brown (3 month rental) 2 1sts, Crit & M Gasol for Pau Gasol
3) Mitch got Fisher for nothing
LETS SUMMARIZE = MITCH TRADED Cookie, 2 (low) 1sts, M Gasol (w/o ever playing an NBA game), Crit & fillers for PAU GASOL, RON ARTEST & D FISH!!! Dude YOU RULE
Mitch NEVER won GM of the year though.
Those 1sts were almost like second round picks. 3/5s of a championship team for Cookie, M Gasol & Critt???? WOW JUST WOW JUST AMAZING JUST WOW MIND BLOWING

???
I just appreciate that our GM is doing a great job.
What Mitch did for LA, to get those 3 starters on seemed impossible at the time. Some how Mitch did it.
Every other team that made a move for a killer set of players did it by trading away a slew of lotto picks and great young players they got from the lotto. The Lakers did it w/o giving up our ONLY lotto pick of the last decade. MAD UPS

Dont forget, we also got Lamar for shaq. There was Butter also but we shipped him to DC for Kwame, which lead to Gasol. Not only that but by tanking the 04 - 05 season cause the team fell apart and we got rid of shaq, we were able to draft Bynum at the 10 spot in the 05 draft. Oh, and he got rid of Vlad Rad for Shanon Brown.
Good job Mitch.

He's the best GM in the league in my opinion. I think one of the biggest highlights of the past 5 seasons was drafting Bynum. At the time, I was really in shock the Lakers didn't pick a more well known player or player with higher potential such as Green (although we all know how that worked out for Boston). I was really skeptical on Bynum as I think most fans were. But drafting Bynum was a brilliant move. One that took time and patients from everyone but one thing is for sure. That 10th pick did not go to waste. Huge steal.

Ya we all know Mamba's not talking about one season. We are talking overall, Mitch shouldve been G.M.O.Y both in 08 and in 09. He deserves it, he has done a great job rebuilt this team in a matter of 5 years after our last title. Specially in 08 and 09 which hands down he took a team full of scrubs and with the help of Phil has molded them into a possible dynasty. Doesnt that count. I mean Danny Ainge got it and he build a WIN NOW and SKIP the future specially when his team tanked in 07 and got the N#5 pick and traded it for Ray and then got help from Mcfail to sign K.G. How does that justify him as a great G.M??

Screw up's
Walton's contract
Sasha's contract
Butler for Kwame
Radman's contract
Bynum's contract
Great moves
Trading Shaq for Odom and Butler
Drafting Marc Gasol
Trading Marc and Kwame for Gasol
Drafting Andrew Bynum (although some might say Granger would have been better but if Drew is healthy he wins
Trading for Shannon Brown
Not signing Treva can't create a shot broken foot Ariza
Signing Ron Artest
The pro's outway the con's.
Will the student surpass the teacher Jerry West? I think so.

Yes Mitch has done a very good job. He did what it took to reshape the roster. He did keep Sun over Marc Gasol. Marc will be a very good player in this league. Sun is just not a 15th player on any roster. I guess it had to be done to get Pau. There are plus and minus all over the place. I guess we are good for now.
Trading all those first round picks might come to hurt the team later on. With player getting older, it is always good to have young players in the waiting. Yes they would use up salary and being over the tax, it would be double money. That is what you get with having a top 5 player on the team in Kobe.

Personally I didn't like the Shaq trade to the Heat. There were better packages for Shaq than the one Heat offered us. But overall Mitch has done a great job

I don't know. I mean, if you think about it, the trade ended up getting the Lakers Gasol.

Minimizing his accomplishments. You expect that many positive changes to be made in one offseason?
Grant the guy a learning curve, he's done very very well by us. And we wonder why other fans tell us we're ingrates and have a disgusting sense of entitlement. Hard to deny those accusations at times.

He (rumors at the time) wanted to draft Brown in 2006, he was taken 1 spot ahead of Farmar.

dude, the C's got a ring that year... OFCOURSE it justifies him as GM of the year.
the ultimate goal is winning the championship, regardless of doing it for 1 year or 5 straight years. winning is winning, and they did that. that's all that matters, really.
and believe it or not, 3 years later, they're still title contenders. im not puttin' the lakers GM down, mitch is great, but lets not take away another teams success especially when they deserve it.
now, that steve nash's 2nd mvp should have gone to kobe? well thats a different story

It is easier to trade away 7 lotto picks for great players than 2 low first round picks, Kwame & Cookie
