Friendly Banter: Lakers vs Celtics

Post#1 » by RondoWallace » Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:07 am

I respect your franchise, and I'm here to discuss the finals match up that we will be having this year. I do not wish to troll. I am here to banter with the Celtics opponent.

Less we forget that Celtics are still the #1 defensive team in NBA. The center of our defense is KG. KG wasn't around for last years playoffs. Before giving in do to fatigue we were up 3-2 on Orlando.

Key Matchup: Perkins vs Binum last year stats:
Perk: 9ppg, 8rbd 1.5 ass, 2 blck .550 fg%
Binum: 14ppg 8 rbd 1.5 ass 2 blck .550 fg%

Does anybody notice a similarity? BTW both are defensive monsters. Perkins is arguably better defender than KG on our team.

Starters:
Rondo (Mr Tripple Double) vs Fisher (Old Clutch)
Pierce(The Truth) vs Kobe(Black Mambo)
Allen (2nd in 3pt All Time) vs Artest (All-NBA defense)
KG(SuperStar) vs Gasol aka the LLAMA (Rookie of the year)
Perkins (Rock) vs Binum (Rock)

Bench:
Wallace, Daniels, Big Baby, House, Tony Allen
vs
Farmar, Odom, ??, ??

Celtics bench has on occasion out-performed the starters. Draw your own conclusions.

What exactly is it you want to discuss? Boston has a more balanced/talented lineup while we have the best player. Its a tossup as far as i'm concerned.

Kind of getting ahead of yourself in already assuming a Lakers- Celtics championship series.

As far as your arguments, you left Odom off when you listed the Lakers bench, pretty big omission. And while the Celtics are generally a better defensive team than the Lakers, having Artest changes the matchups considerably. A big advantage the Lakers had when they played the Celtics was that they could put Kobe on Rondo which, with Rondo's lack of a reliable outside shot, allowed Kobe to be the help man for everyone else. But the problem was that Pierce could overpower Ariza/Walton/Radmonovich which would make the Lakers have to put Kobe on Pierce. With Artest they won't have to do that. So one problemthat I can see for the Celtics is that they won't have anyone to cause double-teams by the Lakers whereas the Celtics don't have anyone that can guard Kobe straight up.

But like I said, there's a long season full of potential injuries to go before either team has to worry about championship series matchups. Nice post though, hopefully we actually will be talking about Laker-Celtics matchups when the championship rolls around.

I think the Lakers match up pretty favorably with Ron Artest on board to handle Pierce, I don't like Kobe using up his energy to chase around Ray Allen though.

I'll take the over lol... but then again i'm kinda biased.

I wanted to find out how Artest has been for you guys. I haven't watched much Lakers pre-season. Also i wanted your honest opinion of the C's with the Wallace, Daniels additions.

I don't think its a strong assumption that Defense wings games. Good job destroying everyone last year, but back to business. Sorry i forgot Odom.

Artest has been passive, he's trying too hard to fit in by deferring and not really playing his game. He also hasn't picked up the triangle yet, I think he will get acclimated eventully though.

I'm not worried about Sheed at all, he plays decent defense, but not any better defense than Perkins or Garnett, on offense I think he might actually hurt the celtics unless he adjusts his game. I think Marquis Daniels was a better pickup than Sheed was, he's the one that might give the Lakers some problems.

You're a dope who made an analysis w/o knowing the other team's bench.

let's not talk about this for 2 reasons

1) how do you expect us to respect your thoughts if you can't even spell BYNUM right

2) stop disrespecting other teams why assuming it will be a celtics lakers series..what if a major key player gets injured from either side..

so let's save this until JUNE, not when preseason bball is still going on and players are still finding their roles

if you can put tony allen as a contributor off the bench (assuming hes healthy enough to actually do something this year) then what about shannon brown?? or sasha who has something to prove from last season??

Speculate that the Celtics would have won that series if Garnett was healthy, it's all good. Butwhat is this garbage about you would have won if you didn't give in to fatigue? That is one of the most pathetic excuses I've ever heard.

Oh and I'm afraid your Finals preview is a little premature. You still have to worry about the defending Eastern Champions and the Cleveland Cavaliers before you can take on Binum and the Black Mambo (whoever those guys are).

Maybe its me but there is no such thing as friendly banter when it comes to the Celtics. They have no respect for the Lakers as an organization or the championship they won last year. So take your Celtics playing the DEFENDING NBA CHAMPIONS in the 2010 finals and get the hell out of here. How is that for friendly banter.

Easy. I'm down to let him post his opinions. Refuting them is fine, but no running him off unless it becomes inflammatory.

IMO The Celtics biggest knock was age.... they got older and added old Rasheed Wallace to the mix. I see Allen as losing his mojo the fastest, the knee doesn't help KG even if he is "back", and the season is very long. The Celtics also have a knack for getting pushed around in the playoffs, even the year they won (Hawks etc...) So I would have to say lets get a little further before we start talking about finals matchups. Even the Lakers could have some tragic injury derail a season.
