i really hope pau can play. i don't expect him to though.
http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2009/10/23/p ... -update-3/Q: On whether he’ll play in the opener:
Gasol: It’s not out of the question … I’ve just got to let it heal. Hamstring injuries are tough. If you don’t heal it right, it can become a long-term issue, and that’s something we don’t want to do at this time of year.
Q: On how it responded to Wednesday’s practice:
Gasol: It got a little worse, it got a little aggravated so we took a step backward. Now we’re just trying to let it heal so I can go back out there.
http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2009/10/23/l ... ostgame-2/After the game, Phil Jackson said that it was likely L.A. would get Bynum back for the season opener, though Gasol was less of a sure thing as he continues to strengthen a strained hamstring

I checked their preseason GTs to see for that but he wasn't mentioned anywhere as a starter.

Should be a fun game to watch. Clippers will be better this year but doubt it will be even a game. Wow how does LA get 17 out the first 21 at home? Talk about home cooking. That should guarantee LA gets off to a good start..always good for TV ratings.

Just like I told another "visitor" the other day..........it all evens out, why are people sitting here moaning and crying and wondering why the Lakers have that type of schedule to start out with? I don't think I'll see anybody saying, "how come the Lakers have so many road games in January, February and March"?
They the exact same type of schedule 3 years ago when they wasn't even considered a contender, and it WASN'T one mention of it on these boards. But ohh now that they are a contender and defending champs.....it's home cooking now?
27 of 44 games will be on the road during that time. So over 3 months the Lakers will only have 17 home games. Is that home cooking too?

This is exactly why so many Laker fans were opposed to Gasol playing during the summer. All that time without breaks has finally caught up to him. Luckily it is nothing serious.

You are right it all evens out in the end. I just can't ever recall any team starting out 17 or 21 games at home. Getting your team off to a good start is important to most franchises. Having so many home games early allows a greater chance of that happening.
I personnally like seeing my team play home games later in the year opposed to earlier.

DEEP3CL, of course it evens out in the end, everyone knows that, but there IS an advantage to having a ton of home games at the beginning of the season, especially for this Lakers squad. They're more inclined to get off to a good start and winning games is a great way to build team chemistry. Furthermore, since they don't have to travel, they will be able to get in more meaningful practices early on to continue to work Artest into the offense, and they have more leeway in letting Pau rest up before the schedule gets tough.
In addition, Phil Jackson personally loves the Laker schedule because it'll be good for all the reasons I listed above, AND the team will be able to really come together later in the season when they are gearing up for the playoffs. It's often said that a team going on the road really tests and builds a team's chemistry and cohesiveness, and that is just what Phil wants to have later in the season so the team can continue to remain sharp by going into opposing team's arenas and taking them down. Going on the road will help the team develop an edge and a killer instinct before the playoffs begin.

Don't get me wrong Hyral, I definitely see the built in advantages. My point I'm arguing is outsiders complaining and moaning about it.They had the exact same type of schedule 3 years ago and no one complained, but now the tables turned and they're the champs and here come people pitching a fit about it.
Personally I love the fact they have a lot of road games closing out the season, makes you a better team by being road tested and dealing with adversity in tight games. And by the time they hit that stretch of the schedule everything will be connected top to bottom. We'll have that cohesion you speak of. Believe me I get it.
