Would RIP Hamilton be a good triangle PG

Just curious, thinking about some ideas of what we could actually use at the PG position. There are some rumors about Detroit wanting to move him, but his contract is probably too big to acquire (although Ammo, Farmar, and Fish for Hamilton works in the trade checker and makes sense from and expiring standpoint for Detroit) But yeah, just thinking of guys who kind of fit that Ron Harper role

Rip is a good defender, probably not the best to put on the real quick PGs, but you can't really stop those guys anyway and I think Rip could provide excellent D most of the time. He's always in great shape and is very active.

Perfect fit for the offense imo, great system guy, cuts well, stays active and gets to the right spots and is an excellent spot up shooter. Shot 44% from 3 a few years ago. Perfect guy to play off the players we have, Kobe, Pau, Lo. He'd be a guy that would benefit highly from the triangle and the passing of these guys. He is also a good passer in himself and has done quite well when called upon to be a facilitator.

Plus he's a veteran leader, who is clutch with championship exp. And I think Kobe respects and trusts him as well. Pretty much a long shot never going to happen, especially since they'd probably have to trade Fish, but its not out of the realm of possibilities with Detroit moving to the Stucky, Gordon, Bynum backcourt and clearing a little more cap space for one more name next year... Maybe they'll take sasha instead of Fish? But just trying to think a little outside the box as to who is actually attainable out there.

Thoughts?

No, I don't think so. Fish and Harper really got most of their shots on spot up attempts, while spotting up isn't really a strength of Hamilton's game. His game is more based on movement.

A guy like Billups or someone like that, that's the ultimate triangle PG.

He would be ok... not great... Ben Gordon on the other hand would be the greatest triangle PG of all time =D

We don't have the pieces to get Rip. Ben Gordon, Billups, Hinrich, etc are not within our reach unless we part ways with Bynum, which we are not willing to do unless we are getting back a high caliber player (LeBron, Wade, etc). I really thought we should of went after a guy like Anthony Parker. Hes big, plays good defense, shoots the 3 at a high clip, and is smart. Perfect PG for us IMO

Rip would be a good triangle SG, but we already have the best triangle SG in the league. I don't think he'd be great at PG.

The best triangle point guard by far in the league today is Chauncey Billups. Deron Williams would be a great fit as well.

No and IMHO Kirk is the best tri point guard in the league right now. Chauncey may have been a few years ago when his D was better, but not anymore. I don't think most people understand just how great of a defensive player Kirk is.

No, Rip doesn't have handles, he'd be a good sg in the triangle.

Guys like Deron Williams and Chris Paul, as well as Billups are flat out better than Hinrich in any system including the triangle IMO.

How good you are as a defender is kind of irrelevant when you're talking about offensive fit, unless you're looking at this as "best point guard suited to play the triangle" in which everyone I mentioned above are clearly superior to Hinrich.

Chris Paul his better suited to play in the tri???? I'm not talking about better player, b/c thats not the topic here. CP3 would not be good in the tri. Deron and Billups would be fantastic, but CP3?? Its not even open for debate. He needs the ball for at least 8 seconds to even begin to make a play and he is not a good catch and shoot guard (getting better, but not very good yet).

Kirk is the one for me. Fundamentally sound. Top defender. Attainable though?

Kid can't start for the bulls but would be a guarantee here. Who wouldn't want that? Only problem is all I would want to offer is Ammo and Fish and well unless chicago seriously wanted some cap space to get an above average SG it won't be happening. Still I can dream can't I :P

Chris Paul would be a better player for the Lakers than Kirk Hinrich would be if we run the triangle. Are you debating that?

^Yes I am...thought I was pretty clear.

CP3 is, IMHO the best PG in the league. But Kirk would be better in the tri, all day everyday.

kirk would have 100% of his skills on display in the triangle offense. he'd be great.

chris paul would have like 75% of his skills on display. the point though is that 75% of chris paul is way better than anything hinrich can do.

^ Amen. We run a fastbreak offense half the time and when it does come down to half court sets, its Kobe - Pau P n R for another good portion of it. We run the triangle like 4 plays every quarter?

Exactly, though I still think we could utilize like 95+% of Chris Paul's skills in our offense (which quite frankly isn't the triangle for a lot of possessions every game).

The argument for Hinrich is kinda like arguing for why Paul Pierce would be better than LeBron James in the triangle. Sure, Pierce has skills that are very easy to fit, but LeBron is just a flat out better player by a huge margin which would play out better as a whole. Same thing with Paul.
