GOAT: PG & SF Spot Only...

Are we all in consensus of the PG & SF spot on our GOAT time teams ? Johnson & Bird.
The 4 & 5 spot have always been hard for me to come to one conclusion, and I'm excluding the 2 spot because it's a flame war and I'm not one that picks the majority there so I'll leave it be, but the 1 & 3 I'm convinced there's no equal. Do you concur ? Those two would have been even better with todays training techniques and today's medicine.

yeah, those are as ironclad as it gets. imo sg is a lock - love kobe but it's gotta be jordan.
4 and 5 get trickier. pop over to player comparisons and you'll have people rattling off russell this, russell that without ever having seen a single game of his. and it's not some laker bias either that makes me say this - same rules apply to wilt.
edit: i guarantee a couple trolls from other boards are disappointed from reading this, that nobody's willing to anoint kobe as the goat sg

Ambient nice avatar!
I heard Bird on Dan Patrick... He said he was never a good 3 shooter, lol. He said he was always stepping on the line, he never really was that aware of it. He said he never practiced it. He was amped to crush in the three point contest cuz it was free money, 10K, but after he won he wasn't that into it until they brought up the prize money, and they did. He said he'd rather have that Mich St/ Indiana St Championship over another C's championship. That NCAA Championship game loss really still stings. I think he said they were undefeated going into that game, and that Mich St played D on them like no other team had and they were so much bigger smothered all the passing lanes. DP also asked him when was the last time you were angry...He said Ron Artest fight...Dan said did you sit down with him, he said heck yes.
...There's some Bird/Magic book that's their words, I wanna get that. Also if you guys have Direct TV check out the DP show Ch. 101, it's a blast.

Yes, and Jordan is the consensus GOAT SG as of right now, or at least he should be. Kobe has zero shot at catching him either, and Wade won't even catch Kobe much less Jordan.
I think that LeBron can and will challenge Bird as the best 3, but whether or not he actually equals him or comes out on top is heavily dependent on team success (championships). Kobe and the Lakers will be standing in his way for years to come, not to mention the teams in the East, and that's about the only thing I can see preventing him from surpassing him.

C: Kareem/Wilt/Hakeem/Russell thats a 4 way tie
PF: Duncan
SF: Bird
SG: Jordan
PG: Magic.
Except for center I believe all other positions have an undisputed greatest player ever.

Semi LBJ is about as smart as a box of rocks, you really think he can be the best SF of all time with that pea sized brain?

Snaq in his prime was brilliant, that first championship with Snaq was phenominal, I'll take Snaq as my center, he's good for one franchise GOAT season then I'll dump him for one of the other HOF's. Hakeem schooled D Rob like nothing I've ever seen. Russell was only 6 9 as great as he was, never saw Wilt, My pops thinks Walton was the best ever until he got hurt, Kareem was brilliant and had probably the best big man career from birth til retirement ever. The only thing with Duncan as brilliant as he is, many say the best ever, that troubles me is I'd like a little more athletisism up and down the court and shooting skill out there, he's more of a half court brilliant guy to me. I think we may have to wait on the best PF ever, a future player could do it, but the question would be would they have the will, heart, drive and the dicipline that these guys have to do so.

If I had to pick my PF/C combo I'd pick Hakeem and Nowitzki. Hakeem would own the post with his footwork and skills and the jumper. Nowitzki would make sure the defenses stay honest giving Hakeem and Jordan to play in the post and then have Magic and Bird are simply the two best passers to have on such a unit.

Who did Hakeem have as rivals though? D Rob, and ? KAJ was 5 years retired already. Ewing. Snaq was stlll a puppy he was three years in when Hakeem won his first championship. Sabonas the baddest Euro ever but past his prime, Rick Smits lol, Deke, and Vlade.

Hakeem was drafted in 1984 I believe so Kareem was still in his good days and he played against the Celtics in the finals in 1986. Patrick Ewing was one of his rivals in the 90s too and its not like he peaked only in the 90s.
# 6× All-NBA First Team (1987, '88, '89, '93, '94, '97)
# 3× All-NBA Second Team ('86, '90, '96)
# 3× All-NBA Third Team (1991, '95, '99)
# 5× All-Defensive First Team ('87, '88, '90, '93, '94)
That shows he's been consistently great from the mid 80s to late 90s.

Garnett ahead of Malone, hmm, I prefer KMalone. KG didn't get angry and physical until he landed in BOS when all the old schoolers had retired.
And as far as LBJ, I can't stand him, and he's dumb as a rock, I'll take Larry the smartest basketball player of all time to frustrate and outsmart him.
Duncan/KAJ would be sicker than Duncan/Snaq IMO. Especially if they hack, at least KAJ could take over at the line down the stretch, otherwise you got two masons in TDunc/Snaq.

Malone is a much better scorer than Garnett and the defense isn't a great downgrade either so I'd prefer Malone over KG.

I have malone WAY ahead of Garnett. To be honest. Then again I prefer him over duncan. Perhaps the whipping the jazz gave us for a few years makes me bias. But boy was that whipping traumatizing.
