kobe 3yr 91mil?

Post#1 » by TruSkool » Fri Nov 27, 2009 3:48 pm

according to wiretap, Dr. Buss is willing to spend anything to keep the lakers in contention for the coming years, which also includes a 3 year 91 million dollar deal for the bean.
if that's the case, i say lure a top tier pg!
is cp3 unhappy by any chance?

Man, that's a lot of money. I mean we'll be over the cap regardless, but damn. I'd prefer a Shaq like deal, to be honest. Something along the lines of 5 years, $100 million.

Gasol will be up for renewal as well, and if Buss is willing to pay Kobe $31 million then I have to wonder if he wants to keep The Spaniard around.

SS, come on man don't start that worrying about resigning Pau crap. Read between the lines. With Gasol the Lakers are 93 and 21. That's winning at 81.6 percent. That's absurd.

81.6%

That's the equivalent of winning almost 67 games a year.

Dr. Buss said he's prepared to spend money to win. Gasol is a HUGE -- and it can't be stressed enough -- HUGE part of that formula.

If Phil thought Luke was "yeast in bread" a few years ago, I'd love to know what he'd call Pau.

No. Pau's not going anywhere. His jersey will hang Staples Center rafters.

I agree with crazyeights Pau will be in a Laker uni when the time comes to it. And plus it's way too early to even predict what Kobe can get because the numbers they're throwing out now are based on this current salary cap. The new cap will certainly change, this is the very reason Kobe hasn't signed yet.

Pau's next contract I would guess would be something like 3 yrs 65 mil or 4 yrs 85 mil, which technically will pay him more than what he's getting now. I'm just basing those numbers on what they think the new cap will be. They've said one of the give backs will be shorter contracts.

if I was Kobe I would try to work out an ownership arrangement type deal like magic. that way it keeps the cap down.

LOL.

Reminds me of Jerry Krause who told Phil Jackson he didn't care if the team went 82-0 and won the chip, he was firing his ass the next year.

I don't think Buss cared if Shaq was going to deliver any more rings (let's be frank, he was going to be a championship level franchise center for another 2 years), he was shipping his ass out of LA.

 I didn't even know 30m a year was allowed.

Buss is an idiot if he throws that much at him. Something in the LOW 20s should suffice. And 3 years isn't value either. Lock the guy up for another max if he's really talking about 3/91m.

Shaq wanted 30 mil a year and Buss said no in 2004.

30 million is insane god damn. I would also like to see 5 years 100 million like Sedale said.

It's not 182. It's a COLLECTIVE tax that fluctuates based on what's on your books.

If you're over the cap 20 million this season, and 10 the next. You're paying 20 million extra this year, and 10 million next season.

If a 20m contract puts the team at the tax limit, you pay nothing. if a 20m contract puts you 1million OVER, you just pay 1 million... not an extra 20 million.

No idea where these poor misconceptions come from.

You do realize Kobe can't sign another max deal right? Have you heard of the "Over 36" rule?

Larry Coon's Slary Cap Facts wrote:For the case of a 32-year-old Qualifying Veteran Free Agent who re-signs to a four-year contract, it is possible the league will grant some leeway. This is because they specifically excluded 33- and 34-year-olds with four-year contracts from being classified as Over 36, but they missed this peculiarity with 32-year-olds. Again, at worst the player can avoid this situation by waiting until after his birthday to sign his contract.
Kobe turns 32 in August.

Larry Coon's Slary Cap Facts wrote:The Over-36 rule also applies to extensions and renegotiations. They always start counting from the date the extension or renegotiation is signed. For example, if a contract with two years remaining is extended by three years, it's counted as a five-year contract. For extensions, a little leeway is given for players who have played ten or more seasons for the team signing the extension.
This works in Kobe's favor.

Dr. Buss must have been smoking a fat blunt and had too many honeys around when he said this... 3/90+ is just crazy! Wow! I love Kobe... and i'm not paying the bills... but that is just too much for this specific team and the salaries that we have right now. I don't get it....

Well... one possible reason: Lebron.
Maybe He wants to further the talks about Kobe being the best ever? Maybe he knows Lebron is going to be getting around that much so he wants to assert that the (most likely will-be) best Laker ever is not no second tier star to anybody in the league at least while he is still doing his magic on the court (shooting over the backboard and all).

I don't think that's allowed actually.
