Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers basketball superstar, sustained an avulsion fracture in the index finger of his right hand in last night's 104 to 92 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Staples Center. Bryant left the game in the second quarter, but returned in the second half for a short time after he was fitted with a foam splint at half time. He later reported that he was in immense pain but wanted to continue playing the game. Bryant sustained a similar injury on his pinkie finger in the past, but plans to not miss any future games with this most recent injury.

An avulsion fracture is an injury to the bone in a place where a tendon or ligament attaches to the bone. When an avulsion fracture occurs, the tendon or ligament pulls away a piece of the bone. It is typically caused by a throwing or jumping action. These injuries are more common in children than adults. Children have a weak point in their skeleton called the growth plate because this area is actively growing.

The usual treatment for an avulsion fracture is rest and icing the area to avoid swelling. Surgery is usually unnecessary, however, severe cases may require surgery.

Deep: Im putting my undeated record on the line tonight. If I win this Deep, this offically put me in the lead. Reasons:
-Back-to-Back game
-Second game of the back-to-back is in Utah
-Kobe has a fractured finger

The pressure is on me

Great GT Big Game. Have confidence, we will come through!! Utah wont forget that embarrassment & we shouldn't forget it either. Phil went with a weird line up last night so i'm thinking he wants fresh legs for tonight. Also you know I'm pissed because I cant join you & DEEP's undefeated talk! In fact I think I have the most losses 2 out of the 3 if I'm not mistaken!!

First off......props to you Big Game on another great GT, secondly you're right will take the lead. It'll be like what win number 4 if you get it? Plus this is our first big road game especially coming on the heels of Kobe's injury. Good luck!

Oh yeah I'm going to try to collect all the data for those who've made GT's with compiled win loss record. Hopefully we can get it stickied.......so we don't have to keep searching for it. Gonna try to get it done next week.

The Jazz are going to give us their best shot tonight, especially considering how they were embarassed in the 4th quarter of the last game we played against 'em. If they can't beat us on a back-to-back in their building with Kobe's shooting finger broken...

I think Kobe is the key- how his finger is feeling and how he can adjust his game with whatever bandages he has on it. We can't have him shoot us out of this game by trying to feel out his injury. Also, we MUST stick to our gameplan and take advantage of our size down-low, which the Jazz simply cannot match.

I think it's gonna be a close one. I'm hoping Artest gets hot and Odom finds some rhythm to take pressure off Kobe while Pau and Drew dominate the paint.

Utah's gonna be geeked up for this one, especially after what happened Wednesday. It's not gonna be an easy one, I just hope that finger doesn't become a problem.

I say we lose this game.
Utah will play like this is the Finals but this will just bee one of 82 for us and Utah will win.

I don't think the lakers will
take this game lightly. Kobe loves to take it to their fans since they decided to boo fish.

Does anyone know if Kobe's hand will fully heal this year?

The Jazz remember that but whipping we put on them the last time we played them. Their going to be looking for revenge. We need to come out focus and pound the ball on the inside to open up our shooters. We need to hustle on defense, plus our biggs need to dominate the boards.
Great GT iamworthy.

I strongly doubt it. The injury apparently calls for rest. Which isn't happening with you know who.

Kobe Bryant participated fully in shootaround & is listed as "probable" on L.A.'s injury report. In short, he's playing.

Phil said Kobe could be in the finger splint for about two weeks, though the injury typically takes 4-to-6 from which to heal.

Phil added that Kobe is definitely the best he's ever seen at playing through pain, suggesting that he almost likes it.

good idea to post that here and not in the GB or we would have another Kobe V Lebron 10 page finger injury thread.
