possible Nash/Kobe MVP rematch

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Fri Jan 1, 2010 9:56 pm

while the actual MVP award may go to Lebron due to all the Homersexual love by ESPN I was thinking that a very interesting situation is developing.

when Nash won his MVPs it was said that at least one should have gone to Kobe because the Suns team had such a great record and Kobe could not make team mates like Kwame and Smush take a trip to the All Star game.

well fast forward to the present and we have a situation in which Nash is being hailed as having one of the best seasons of his life at 36 (not to mention that they didn't even make the playoffs last season) and their record may equal or pass the Lakers by seasons end, and Kobe having an MVP type year.

the difference is that this time Kobe may have a couple of team mates in the All Star game in Drew and Pau and the Lakers may end up with the best record.

I think that the voting this time should be revealing of who should have won back then because this time Kobe will not be penalized for having Kwame and Smush as team mates.

Coming into the year I didnt think Kobe even had a chance to win the MVP. I thought he would coast through the regular season and turn it up in the playoffs....boy was I wrong. If the MVP voteing comes down to Kobe and Nash, and the lakers are leading the pacific and western conference with the best record, I dont see how nash can win it. Kobe already has sever 40 point games and in those games they are 7-0. Anyone watching the lakers can see he has put this team on his back, plus he is shooting a career high in fg%. If he conitinues down this path Nash and Lebron can forget it.

Not to mention that he's doing all this through injuries.
Thank you, Phil.

Another MVP would be nice for Kobe. But a 5th ring would mean so much more. LBJ could be a front runner, with so much time left in the season. It seems a little early to start to really think about it. Laker fans were chanting MVP in game 1 of this season. So I guess it is never out of the minds of loyal fans.

lol you missed the point of the thread. it is not about wanting Kobe to win the MVP (we all know Lebron will take it). the point is that this time around Nash and Kobe are having similar years as when they did when Nash got his only this time Kobe wont be penalized for his team mates sucking and the voting will tell a more fair assessment as to who should have won back then.

I wouldn't say the Lakers were overly matched talent wise in the 06' playoffs. Nash, Marion were all-stars but that was the year Amare was out. If Tim Thomas didn't have that 3 month streak off a life-time the Lakers would've taken it in 6 at the most. 07' yes the Lakers were over matched.

As for the MVP race in 06' i thought Kobe and Billups were in front of Steve but Nash ended up winning. In 05' he absolutely deserved it. 62 wins and took us out from the cellar and Amare blew up along with Joe Johnson.

This year it's gotta be Lebron whether he deserves it or not imo. How Kobe only has 1 MVP is absurd.

Why does Lebron have to be handed the mvp everyone should be on a level playing field but for Kobe it never is, If LA gets the best record in the league and Kobe keeps playing like this which he will have to if this keeps up then no way I see anyone else touchin mvp, Nash is up there but they wont win enough games but at the end of the day Kobe wants rings not mvp so if anyone else getting mvp means LA winning back to back then by all means hand it out to anyine

We really have under estimated how good the rest of the Suns were in those Nash teams. Nash is one of my absolute favs but MVPs only go to elite teams
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Pau and Bynum would be all-stars without Kobe's help though. Numbers wise, it'll go to Lebron.
