SEASON & SERIES NOTES
Welcome to the first match up of 4 between the Lakers and Spurs for the 09-10 season. This will be the 136th game between the two championship franchises. The Lakers won the season series last season 2-1. The Lakers are 6-4 against the Spurs in their last 10 games Under head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers are 16-18 against San Antonio in the regular season. In the postseason,Jackson is 15-7 against the Spurs, advancing to the next round in four of five series meetings. The Spurs are also 3-11 verses teams at .500 or better.

TEAM ANALYSIS
The Lakers currently rank 5th in scoring at 103.5 a game, while the Spurs rank 9th at 101.9. The Lakers are 9th defensively in points allowed giving up 96.6 and the Spurs are ranked 5th with 95.6 allowed per game. The Lakers rank 1st in defensive 3pt field goal percentage at .307, while the Spurs rank 7th at .337. The Lakers are also 1st overall in rebounding at 45.2 per game, the Spurs are 12th at 42.3.

KEYS TO WINNING GAME
Against the Spurs it's always going to be about controlling the boards, the Lakers should dominate the boards against the Spurs but DeJuan Blair at 6'7" is a beast for his size but the longer Lakers front line should be able to hold them off. Secondly the Lakers must control the tempo, the Spurs have added players specifically to match up with the Lakers so Popovich will be eager to see what his team does against them. The Spurs in the past have preferred to play a slow tempo with L.A., but now they're a little more up tempo with the new additions.

Last but not least the Laker must pound the ball in the paint and exploit the lack of size on the Spurs front line. If Blair is on Bynum, the Lakers need to give Bynum a touch on every possession they have in the game to keep the Spurs defense off balance since Duncan will be the help defender. This means Lamar Odom should have a field day if the Spurs double off him, he has to make them pay. Parker will be effective against Fisher, but Fish has been known to stick some daggers against them. Shannon Brown will guard Parker some and Farmar should provide a change of pace.

HERE'S WHAT WE THINK OF YOU

Mr. Threatt and myself will be attending this game, so be on the look out for us behind the Lakers bench heckling Kobe. Also, if you see someone urinating on Sasha, that's probably me.

I hope we win otherwise it's going to be a long ass drive back to Austin. :x

"The Lakers rank 1st in 3pt field goal percentage at .307, while the Spurs rank 7th at .337"

Something is off here, DEEP, or am I reading it wrong?

EDIT: VVV That would explain it, thanks! And wow, it always seems like the opposition is raining 3s. That's pretty impressive.

I believe those are defensive stats.

He's saying the Lakers are the best at defending the three point shot.

While you're at it, can you guys question Bynum's manhood, and bring Fish a walking cane, would be greatly appreciated.

Better yet use the walking cane to beat Bynum.

Anyone want to place a non-friendly wager on tonights game? Nothing too crazy just something creative. Gonna be a fun game to watch but Spurs are going to take care of business.

I'd be interested in a little wager, but why dont we put a wager on a game when Gasol is back healthy?

How long is GAsol out for? Will he back in time for another All-Star appearance?

Watch out for Mahinmi tonight..He had a pretty good game (debut I shall say in what seems like forever) against New Jersey the other night and Pop has been holding a very tight leash on Blair lately..I doubt Pop will be needing much of Blair's services tonight especially against Bynum..

SAN ANTONIO — The Lakers have a tough two-day task in San Antonio and Dallas without Pau Gasol, but relief likely awaits thereafter.

Phil Jackson said Gasol (hamstring) is aiming to play Friday night against the Clippers.

“He’s kind of earmarked the Clipper game as one he can come back on,” Jackson said Tuesday.

That would ensure the Lakers have Gasol for two big games right after that: Monday against Orlando and Thursday at Cleveland. The Cleveland game is the first of a season-long, eight game trip.

Gasol hasn’t played since early in the Jan. 3 game against Dallas, leaving with a pulled left hamstring.

Luke Walton said he also had been pointing to Friday as his day to come back from an eight-week absence from a pinched nerve in his back. Walton might be in uniform against San Antonio, though, because Adam Morrison is ill with a sore throat. Walton told Jackson: “I’ll be ready.”

Walton hedged about declaring himself fully healthy but said: “I feel good enough to play basketball.” He said he gets sore and stiff after workouts but has “pretty much stayed pain-free” the past 10 days when pushing his workouts to a higher level.

Jackson said he doesn’t intend to play Walton, but noted: “He can certainly fill in and do something.” Jackson is looking forward to Walton’s return to improve the passing of the second unit, which hasn’t played with the same level of speed that Jackson would like.

You guys are awfully quite today. We can wait for the next meeting to place a wager if you aren't confident in tonight. The Lakers are banged up.

No worries, you still make a better game thread than I could ever hope to. :)

I still can't believe the numbers though. As much as it kills me when other teams hit 3s...fans of every other team in the league have it worse.

K, since it's 30 minutes to tip, I want to see focused playoff-mindset Lakers show up. Even with their crappy start - back when they were in like, 11th place in the West, I told somebody SA was going to recover and be at worst a 6th seed. They'd be 5th right now. They're not going to go away. I still see them as a bigger threat than anyone except Denver or Dallas (and only if those teams play out of their minds).

Spurs have been there. They know how to win. Lakers have to be better.

Let's be better tonight.
