Odom and his Anti-Nash diet

Post#1 » by Sofa King » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:05 am

I was reading Bill Simmons List of 40 and came across Nash's comments.

17. Steve Nash
Better than ever, which really shouldn't be the case because, you know, he just turned 36. We invited him to an ESPN dinner at Sundance, and he told us there were three reasons he's not aging: a no-sugar diet, a sleep journal and a steady supply of undetectable PEDs from the revolutionary Suns training staff. (Fine, I made the last one up.) He said the no-sugar diet made him recover faster after games and especially for back-to-backs. In fact, half the Suns are watching their sugar intake now. Nash brought Jared Dudley with him to dinner; Jared was reading the menu and asking Nash, "Can I have this? What about this?" like he was eating with Harley Pasternak or something. It was high comedy. Not only does Nash make his teammates better, he orders for them. Anyway, I don't see him going downhill anytime soon.

Given Odom's craze on candy, I wonder if this will effect how long Odom will play or any other athlete who has a high sugar diet.

odom isnt 36... yet... and medically, yes, his sugar diet goes a long way to explaining the up and down nature of his game, but i think the story about odom being the candy man has been overblown anyway. yes it leads to sudden drops in energy, yes it leads to poor concentration, but at the moment hes producing at a decent level, (so no complaints here... yet).

i dont think anyone here really expects odom to produce the same as he currently is when hes 33/34 as he is right now anyway... and his contract is set-up to take advantage of that

but nash's game isnt predicated on athleticism anyway, his game is based on great decision making, superior skills, change of pace, change of direction and keeping the opposition off-balance as opposed to bullying, or speeding his way into the lane and drawing defenders

so its really apples and oranges here...

lamar has skimped on candy in favor of oranges ever since artest came on board and convinced LO to do so. there's been reports on him munching on oranges even during the game.
