Jackson, Rivers criticize Cavs' deal

Jackson declined to comment on the Jamison trade when he was asked about it at Thursday's shoot-around, quipping, "I don't care about that," and dodged two more questions about it in his pregame media session before not being able to bite his tongue any longer.

"They're going to get Ilgauskas back and it's going to be one of those scenarios that we see in the NBA where you ship a player out, you get another player, then your player retires or they pay him off and then he comes back in 30 days," Jackson said. "I don't know what that does for the league. I think that's kind of a weird situation."

Rivers agreed with Jackson, even though the loophole has helped his team in the past.

"I have a problem with that," Rivers said before Thursday's Lakers-Celtics game at Staples Center. "I loved it three years ago when we did it with Gary Payton if you remember, but now I think it sucks. I think it's a terrible deal."

Oh the irony.

No ish

Check out Mr Clean has already started complaining like a %itch that he is, and people complained about the Pau trade.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas has spoken publicly for the first time since Wednesday's trade from the Cavaliers to the Wizards.

"Right now I'm a Wizard,'' he said. "I think eventually they'll let me go, but that's just my guess. They haven't told me anything yet. First I've got to go to Washington, and hopefully after a couple of days they'll let me go home."

Ilgauskas found it hard to watch Cleveland play the Nuggets on television from home on Thursday evening.

"This is my team,'' he said. "I'm going to be mad, but not so mad that I wouldn't come back. I understand it's a business. This is my home. No matter what happens in the future, that will never change.''

I've always thought it should be changed. You shouldn't be allowed to get a player back that you just traded. Other teams have done it though so all is fair in love and war.

hmm they are trying to make illgaus talk about it..so if he says that he will be waived and resign with cavs, the league will decline and not allow it. happened to jerry stackhouse couple yrs ago i believe

I was thinking the same thing dude. I think a player shouldn't be allowed to return, it just doesn't seem fair ethically but oh well. I still think our squad can kill!

It's very.. strange. On one hand, yeah, it's a bad loophole, and it sucks. We only complain because it's really just the Cavs that we're concerned with.

But at the same time, what if they didn't allow that loophole? I'd feel bad for Z for the fact that he can't go back to his HOME. He'd have to move in order to maintain his family and career.

So the other part is, trading and owners can really push familys around, and that sucks.

yea it sucks for Z but that's on the Cleveland organization for trading someone loyal like that.

Don't feel bad.....anytime a player is move, their families are effected as well. Its a business after all. Their gonna be fine with their millions of dollars in the long run. Hes lucky this is gonna be his first major move anyways considering hes been in CLE most of his career.

I actually hope considering Washington and Cleveland's are rivals that they hold out and holds on to Z just to stick to CLE.....or atleastt until March 1st so he'd be ineligible to play in the POs.

Oh come on...

Half the season is done already, it's not like he would have to move for his family... That sounds kinda like Spreewell logic of a few years ago...

If you get traded and you suck... You get waived or bought out... You should have to sit for the rest of the season... What is that... A couple months? I know people who've been out of work that long who actually do a good job.

I wouldn't feel sorry for anyone if that happened. Especially Z-Diggy...

It's a stupid loop-hole that should be closed... Or you should open it further and do away with the 'trade-deadline' and allow people to deal up to the start of the playoffs...

For the record though... It's a stupid loop-hole that I wish we could have taken advantage of with Fisher...

LMAO no ish. Im about to lose my family business of 83 years because my landlord is an arsehole and after 18 years in the midst of what is currently being called the worst economical slump since the depression in our countries history he wants me to move to a smaller place and pay more rent becuase he is having a hard time renting that building and I should feel bad for Z and his family.

I dont see a problem with the rule. If it wasn't for having to match contracts in a trade Z would have never been dealt. I guess that is how you can do away with the loophole. Make it so that contracts don't have to be matched.

That's a whole different thread.

But, funny how Mitch convinced the Sixers shooting coach to sign with the Lakers to get traded for Pau. Hehe

isnt ilgauskas' statement above pretty much saying hes planning on signing back with the cavs as soon as wizards let him go? league should look into this and not let him.

Being a kid who moved around alot when he was young, I still feel slightly bad (for the kids at least, and for the players with poor salaries) when they move.
