In 16 games w/o Gasol Bynum is a 20 / 13 Center this year!

In 16 games this season without Gasol, Bynum's stats look like this:
PPG - 19.8
RPG - 11.4
FG% - 57.9%
Those stats are the reason I support deals like the one I posted here and in the Trade Forum that yield:
A huge PG / Perimiter improvement.
An adequate big who can man the center spot.
A much needed infusion of hungry youth.
Think about this. Gasol and Bynum together average 30 and 18 when they both play.
So going from Bynum/Gasol to just Bynum is a loss of only 10 points and about 6.5 rebounds per game.

Actually without Gasol, Odom goes up by 1 PPG, and 2 RPG.
So losing Gasol leaves us down only 9 PPG, and less than 3 RPG!

Here's a stat for you:
Fisher-Bryant-Artest-Gasol-Bynum.
The Lakers best 5-man unit.

How does this one look?
Mayo-Bryant-Artest-Odom-Bynum (the 20/13 version not the 13/7 version that you listed)
with Conley / Brown / Biedrins on the bench

I posted a prospective trade that did just that on the Trade Board, and almost everybody said the Lakers would surely pass, especially Lakers fans themselves.

we need gasol and bynum. the problem is they both really need the ball to be effective. so one has to go to the bench. i was just thinking and i can't recall a recent duo of 7 footers like our's that won a ring. i know some will say the spurs but robinson was way past his prime imo when duncan came along. we have two guys in gasol and bynum that both still demand touches. we need to send one to the bench. we would still be untouchable. maybe we should send pau since he is more polished and can get his own shot. that way kobe and odom can feed bynum in the first unit. then odom and farmar can feed pau in the second unit.

A very, very interesting stat.
I'm pretty sure we could win a champonship with EITHER Bynum or Gasol.
We've got a luxury that should be tapped by the front office soon because it isn't being tapped by Bynum and Gasol on the floor together.

OJ Mayo would be OUTSTANDING as a lead guard.
Fans are pretty sentimental when it comes to Gasol though, so you'd better be SURE.
How that trade works? I don't know when Memphis has Randolph, and Marc Gasol already?
Bynum is a beast people. He ain't perfect but he'll get even better than what he's showing.
He doesn't play well with Gasol and that pisses everybody off but he's still a beast.
Wait til he gets some REAL swagger about him.

Right up there with one of my favorite quotes of all time, from Charles Shackelford: "Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious."

...this guy brought us the title, a finals appearance and a chance to contend for quite a few years.
Oh, I miss Smush Parker & Kwame Brown days...

Bynum is not going to run the offense nearly as well as Pau last year. Until Bynum can pick up his defense he's not going to lead this team to another title as the sole post player on the team.

What's lost on you is the fact that we lost 6 of those 16 games.

I find that statline to be deceiving anyhow. First, Gasol posts better numbers also without Bynum and he doesn't have to kill the offensive flow to do it. Second, Odom is much more effective playing with Gasol than he does Bynum. It wasn't a coincidence that Odom played the best ball of his career once Gasol joined us.
That was also the Gasol that didn't get punked by the Warriors. At this point I'm fine with either Gasol or Bynum being benched, but Bynum right now is not going to help us win the title as the second option. He attracts a lot of doubles because teams are gambling on the fact that he will shoot everytime he gets the ball in low post, and that has paid off for them because Bynum doesn't know how to react against it.
