Are we about to overpay for Shannon Brown this summer? I like Shannon Brown, but for every good game he has...he has about 3 or 4 stinkers. In the last 5 games he is shooting about 37% We are about to get screwed. Dont get it twisted, theres a reason he was almost out of the league. I want him on this team, but a the right price. Or, am I overreacting.... Your thoughts?

I think he's worth 3 mill per.

Fair value: 3 years, 9 million

Absolute Highest: 2 years, 7.5 mill

This means that if I'm the GM he probably walks.

Then I sign Tony Allen for the minimum. He can't shoot like Brown but his D on 1s and 2s is better.

Yeah, Im willing to go about 3 or 3.5 a year. But definitely not MLE.

If his agent wants that, I think I give him his papers if I have a cheaper replacement in mind (Tony Allen).

Exactly!! I have a feeling Shannon will end up like Trevor. We will offer him something, but he will take something else. I know thats not exactly how the trevor deal went but you get the picture.

I know it's really easy for me to say, but if I were a struggling pro baller that FINALLY goes to a team that gives me a role and an opportunity, I would sacrafice millons for the peace of mind of knowing that I'll be happy playing for a team that WILL give me minutes and has always valued what I could do on the floor.

If the Lakers will give me 2 years, 7.5 mill (or 3 years, 9 mill) and someone else is willing to give 3 years, 12 mill, I'm pretty sure I'd take the Lakers deal (not being a homer either).

I choose the Lakers because I'd feel more secure with the Lakers knowing that playing for them will allow me to maintain my value across the league. I know with the Lakers I'm getting my 15 -25 minutes game rain or shine. If I sign with Toronto (hypothetically speaking), although they say I'll "compete for a starting job", the reality is that once I get there, I might languish on the bench for three years with my value aftr the contract absolutley "shot" around the league.

But players don't look that deep because:

A) They're not that smart.

and

B) They're agents convince them to ONLY look at the numbers on the paper with no regard for a future after the contract.

Just my two cents.

Guys like Shannon can easily be replaced. Trevor and Ronny were replaced easily and if SHannon leaves I expect for the same to happen.

No way we over pay this guy. He's a good fit for us but only at the right price.

If we can keep Shannon and Farmar for close to 6 mil, I'd be satisfied. If we can add Foye and not resign either, it'd still be a good enough business.

Mardy Collins can't replace Shannon Brown's role as the BEST defender of PGs on the team, but Collins can play a good role as the first line of defense against opposing PGs while a guy like Tony Allen is brought in off the bench as the deisgnated "pit-bull".

Mike Miller and a defensive, passing, "glue-guy" like Mardy Collins are the exact things we need out the PG position ... if we don't trade one of our centers.
