Lakers obviously are one of the favorites to win the title this year. With that being said we have some glaring weaknesses.

1. speed and athleticism
2. starting pg who can defend
3 players who can create off the dribble
4. reliable outside shooting.
5. depth

My perfect offseason plan would be to split the midlevel on cj watson and travis outlaw. Both are young, athletic, can penetrate and can shoot. Defensively they are slightly above average with potential to be very good defenders.

We can sign crittenton for the minimum. He knows the triangle, at least has some experience under his belt and is another player who can create for others.

Sign 2 of either milicic, ratliff, kurt thomas, camby, jermaine oneal, skinner, whoever accepts the minimum. Obviously camby and oneal are the least likely to sign for that amount.

Sign fisher as an assistant coach, resign brown up to 3 million max if he opts out, resign mbenga and powell for minimum

pg watson- crittenton-brown
sg- kobe- brown- outlaw
sf- artest-outlaw-kobe-odom
pf- gasol-odom-skinner (realistic), powell
c- bynum- gasol- ratliff (realistic)-skinner -mbenga

so in summary bring back brown, powell, mbenga. Sign watson, outlaw, crittenton, ratliff, skinner. I think its a realistic offseason.

What we need, above all, are guard(s) that can shoot. Even with our pathetic PG defense we are still a top 5 defensive team. However, we SHOULD be the best offensive team given the type of talent we have.

Jordan Farmar currently leads our team in 3-point shooting at .367, which is absolutely f'ing pathetic given how many great looks our guards get on a regular basis. You look over at our "rivals" in Cleveland and they have a guy shooting .480 and two others shooting .420 from downtown -- and they get the same damn looks as our guards. Imagine how great we'd be if we had that kind of shooting?

Imagine how much better Gasol/Bynum would be if teams weren't allowed to pack the paint all the time or rely on our bench to create shots for themselves because they can't shoot? Great shooting fixes quite a bit in our busted offense, so I'd look to fix that first.


What would I do?

I'd find a way to get Mike Miller in the offseason via sign and trade, unless he's willing to accept MLE. We have Jordan Farmar, Shannon Brown, and Josh Powell to basically work with, along with picks I suppose.

Miller is the consistent 3-point shooter that we've been lacking since Radmanovic departed, and he's also an excellent rebounder and decent passer. He would play quite well next to Kobe or behind him, but I think he's exactly what we need given what's available. If Artest is out there bricking it up, no problem. Slide Kobe to the 3 and bring in Miller to lite teams up. We'd have a nice 3-man rotation with Kobe, Artest, and Miller, and it works well because Kobe can effectively play two spots. It's similar to our big 3 rotation with Odom, Pau, and Bynum.

If that doesn't fall through then I'd be looking to bring in Kyle Korver, who can without question be had for less than MLE.

At this point our biggest weakness is a lack of outside shooting, not defense, so I'd rather we address that first and foremost. Solid team defense can help cover the weakness of our guards, but great ball movement and dominant post options clearly can't make them hit their open shots.

Predator, good breakdown but I expect more myself this off-season.

CJ watson would be a good fall back, but I expect more of a splash at th PG spot.

Crittenton, isn't he facing possible gun charges?

CJ Watson is OK... but he's not gonna solve any of our problems... Not a good shooter, not a great defender... he is quick and can score but he wouldnt really help

I don't believe ends up in LA because New York, Chicago, or Miami might get to him first.

I would offer ALL the best PG's the entire MLE, and see if one want some Rings!!!

I don't that will happen because they are all too greedy.

We need a PG like Steve Blake. Dead Eye shooter and plays OK defense. Our need of shooting superceeds our need for a lockdown defender. Although getting both in one player would be ideal

I put Watson after Foye because I don't see how the Warriors would let him just walk after 7 days after signing a offer sheet with the Lakers since he's restricted. The Warriors won't want to see Watson 4 times a season. Blake is just the cheap option sign him for half the MLE and resign Fisher kind of like this Laker teams Green/Horry combo at PG.

And I don't get this boards obsession with Crittenton either if they want a guy like that they should look at Livingston at least we know he can play in the NBA.

I think watson is a good shooter. Last year he made 40% of his threes, this year hes at 32%. With the open looks he would get here, he can realistically shoot 37% +.

I think the reason why we look stagnant offensively is because ron and fish are not triple threat players. Both are decent/good spot up shooters, but they cannot penetrate and when they do they cant finish at the rim in traffic, or in fishers case when hes wide open. Fish is also a below average passer, ron is a good passer.

Fish and artest are easily the slowest pg and sf duo in the league. This hurts our offense because the triangle needs cutters who can make quick cuts and finish in traffic. Miller would be a great pickup, but he would be a luxery not a necessity. Getting a starting quality pg is a necessity and has been for years. We have won despite our poor pgs. We do have pathetic outside shooting, and it definately is a glaring weakness, its just not our biggest weakness.

Crittenton (if hes not in jail) would be a cheap pg who could battle for the backup pg position with brown or another pg. Could be a low risk high reward type of player. He definately has talent and did showcase it in the brief stint he had with our team. Livingston is a good player, but hes only made 6 threes in his 5 year career. Actually with that being said crittenton isnt a 3 point shooter either. Luther head might be another good option as a backup pg.
