Souray is part of the problem but the Oilers deserve a lot of the blame for this mess.

just wanted to throw a big "eff you" out there to Brooks Orpik for kneeing Franzen in a freaking preseason game and almost seriously injuring him again. The only good thing to come of it was Bertuzzi showing some balls and fighting (and supposedly) beating on Orpik.

Franzen now out some games with a charley horse. stay classy Brooks.

I love Orpik's game, but the guy can be a real slob some times. Reminds me of Kronwall when it comes to cheap hits except he doesn't suck like Kronwall does.

Wade Redden just got put on waivers. Back when he was with the Sen's he was one of the better defensemen in the league but over the last couple years he's just fallen apart.

I doubt anyone claims him. They'd be better off just buying him out at this point - how many years are left on his contract?

I believe he's got 4 years left, I could be wrong though. I totally agree with you too they should just buy the guy out rather than let him sit in the AHL.

if they buy him out, he stays on their cap. Assuming the rangers are willing to foot the bill, they are far better off dumping him in the AHL. The best option though would be to see if any European team would be willing to take him on and pay a part of his salary. That way they get rid of him, he doesn't count on the cap, they get a team to pay for a small part of his salary and he doesn't have to go play in the AHL taking time away from their kids.

Isn't there a scenario where if they try to assign him to the AHL and he refuses they can void his contract? I think that moron Ek was talking about it and saying how it would all depend on if Redden wants the NHL or money. But if he has 4 years left, he'd be stupid to even think about voiding that contract.

How is Sather still a GM?

Oilers put Gerber and Souray waivers today, doubt either one of them gets claimed. But it sounds like alot of teams are going to interested in Souray when he goes on re-entry waivers.

It also seems like we're going to carry 3 goalies on the active roster this year. I'd be royally pissed about this if I wasn't so sure that Khabibulin's only going to be with the team for the first month or so.

I think thats the case ya, if he decides not to report they can suspend him without pay until he does and then not only does he come off the books but they pay him nothing. I think the odds of somebody leaving that much cash on the table are pretty slim. If I was wade redden, I would try to make the most of the time and take on a player/coach role (assuming he wants to become a coach down the line)

Sather has been terrible, not milbury bad, but still pretty bad. I think it's pretty much a sure bet that he would get claimed on re-entry waivers, especially with streit out, the islanders are the perfect spot for him.

also to clarify one point on a potential buyout for redden, if the rangers wanted to buy him out, the contract would count for about $2.2 million a year against their cap for the next 8 years.

thankfully he doesn't have a declining salary structure, as those make calculation the salary cap hit of a buyout a lot more complicated, and actually change the cap hit of the buyout every year (like the yashin buyout)
