I read somewhere, and I can't remember where, but the article said the reason Hudler went to the KHL is because the Red Wings can't afford to sign him and he wants to stay with the Red Wings. The only problem with that though, and I would think the Red Wings would tell him this is, if he plans on coming back next season, since the Wings will have more cap space then, he has to go through re-entry waivers and he won't make it to the Wings.

Unfortunately sir, from what i can tell, not accurate. From MLive:

Hudler earned $1.15 million last season. The Red Wings offered him his choice of a three-, four- or five-year deal, averaging between $2.5 million and $3 million a season, which Svoboda [his agent] told Holland was a fair offer.

When Hudler, a restricted free agent, filed for arbitration Sunday, Holland assumed he wanted to remain in Detroit, since that precludes him from receiving an offer sheet from another team.

But Svoboda told Holland on Monday about the Dynamo offer. Holland and coach Mike Babcock spoke with Hudler on Tuesday but could not convince him to stay.

From what i understand Hudler just got a ridiculous, tax free offer from his home country team. Doesnt shock me. Just dissapointed. He went for the cash and his home

Pens sign Jay McKee 1 yr 800,000. I love this signing. He will be a great partner for Golgoski. I like the way the D is now. Gonch-Orpik, Letang-Eaton, Goligoski-McKee

Defintely a fast moving defense.

Yep, him or Huet. But don't be shocked if Versteeg, Barker or Byfuglien are shipped out before the season starts. Sharp's name has been thrown around, but that would be a big mistake in my mind.

If Huet can get back to his form when he was with the Caps and played really well, I think he will be worth what he makes. But Campbell at that contract for a 3-4 defenseman is not worth it at all.

I don't see why Chicago signed Versteeg. They should have tried trading his rights. To me, Sharp>>Versteeg, even long term wise too.

Yeah, I don't like the Versteeg signing much either. They could have gotten a lot back in return for Versteeg before this deal. Now I still hope they trade him, but the return won't be as good as it could have been.

Oh Ok. Yeah that article definitely was wrong. I guess I can't blame Hudler too much. He has his cup now he just wants to go home. It just seems strange to me that it is a 1 year deal.

Montreal signs Paul Mara to a 1 yr deal worth $1.9 mil. Good signing by the Habs. He is an underrated defenseman.

Really like the Moen signing. Was one of the better FA's left.

The Hudler situation is apparently not so cut and dry. Again, from MLive:

The NHL is contesting Hudler's contract with Moscow Dynamo of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, saying he is contractually obligated to the Red Wings because he filed for arbitration July 5.

The NHL has asked the International Ice Hockey Federation to intervene and void Hudler's two-year, $10 million pact with Dynamo. The league says that by filing for arbitration, Hudler made a commitment to remain in the NHL next season.

"We believe that Mr. Hudler remains contractually obligated to the Detroit Red Wings," NHL spokesman Frank Brown said in a statement.

Interesting....i want him back but if he doesn't want to be here... i dunno. We shall see

The KHL has double standards. If Hudler did file for arbitration, then yeah, he should be playing in the NHL.

I know it's a minor player, but Joel Kwiatkowski tried to sign a contract with the Thrashers this offseason but already had a contract with a KHL team. The KHL protested the Thrashers to cancel the contract and they did. Apparently, there is a gentlemen's agreement in which the NHL and KHL respect the contracts.

Interesting.

Yes, he did file so, yes, Hudler should stay.

I am not too familiar with the KHL, but i find this rather intriguing. The "gentleman's agreement" among the two leagues is surprising, i had no idea.

This could be a very interesting point for Bettman or whoever. Do they wanna push this? Do they let it go? It could go a ways to creating standards for how the other foreign leagues will conduct business with NHL players

Bruins did some moving and shaking today. Chia really played with our heads. First, he trades ward to carolina for Patrick Eaves (who is expecting to be waived) and a 4th rounder.

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bru ... urricanes/

Many thought that was to make signing room for kess. He basically said someone was out the door just a few days ago. But then, he goes and signs derek morris.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=285661

But now what happens with Kessel? It sucks seeing ward go, he did a lot of work here with the radio, and the funny thing is, that station just got shut down, and now he gets traded  But I really do like DoMo. This guy has been rumored to come here since last year. And now he is here, good.

I just can't wait for the season to start.

That was probably the dumbest move this offseason. Even dumber then the Montreal trading for Gomez move.

Derek Morris is awful. Aaron Ward is so much better then Derek Morris. Not skill wise, but Ward brings so much more to the table then Derek Morris. Should have used the money to sign Kessel.

I like Morris, but Ward is a helluva lot more valuable to the team. They better get an insane return on Kessel or they could potentially be ****ing up something that was looking to be pretty promising in the Beans.

Sharks are looking to get Heatley, the offers Cheechoo, Erhoff and a first-round pick. But the Sens are not interested so the Sharks are looking for a third team to help facilitate the deal, the Habs rumoured to interested.

If the Habs are in it, it's Cheechoo to Montreal with Plekanec and Halak/Hamrlik to Ottawa.

If its Plekanec and Halak going to Ottawa then I see no reason for the Sens not to do this deal. Plekanec gives them another scoring threat too put on one of their top lines and Halak could start for them.

I like the signing of Eaves. If the Pens had an open roster spot, I would have hoped GM Shero would have taken a chance on him. Surround him with talent, and I think he will succeed.
