Only Weber is a free agent this offseason, and he's restricted. Certainly another team will try to drive the price up (see Hjalmarsson), but I can't see Weber getting more than $6 million per. They'll have about $21 million of cap space assuming the cap goes up to around $62 million, which is expected. That's plenty of cash if they want to get a jump on Suter and Rinne right now.

Plus, the Predators are so close to being a true contender and those three are the biggest reasons why. Keep them around and get some more firepower in there, the Preds will be in the Cup finals soon.

One to start:
http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/blog?nam ... id=6519942

While it's impossible to predict the future, I have a hard time believing the Preds could keep both guys at market prices. If one or both accepted some sort of hometown discount, that would change the equation.

If Poile can figure a way to keep both Weber and Suter, he'd probably have to move Rinne or risk losing him as a free agent.

Again, I want Nashville to keep the core together because I like their system, and Weber is my favourite defenseman in the NHL not named Lidstrom, and I enjoy seeing small market teams having success. That said, the offseason of 2012 could pose a problem as that is when Suter and Rinne become free agents. IF the team doesn't have the money to keep those two and Weber (you have figure Weber is priority #1), a Suter trade this season is a definite possibility.

If the team was ever allowed to spend up to the cap, it wouldn't be an issue, but that isn't the case with their ownership.

Vancouver scores with 10 seconds to go. Game 5 going into overtime.

Tough call, but the puck hit Sedin before the puck went down the ice. Shouldn't have been icing.

Yes. Every player in the National Hockey League will be going to Detroit.

The Sharks are the Atlanta Braves of the NHL. Except the Braves have actually won a title.

Agreed, these playoffs have been pretty dull since the first round.

Only San Jose and Detroit was interesting in the second round and it probably shouldn't have been.
