Re: 2008 Offseason Thread
Ryan Malone is going to be one of the most overpaid free agents this year. 7 years is outragous. He is 28 right now and is a power forward. I just hope he only scores 15 goals this season so I can laugh my ass off at him and Tampa Bay.
The most inconsistent player I've seen play. Never even cared about playing hockey until this past season during his contract year.

Jeez. Well, someone tell the Lightning that hockey can only be played with one puck at a time.

Yeah, they definetly overpaid, but he will be decent. I would expect he plays with Stamkos on the second line next year, so he will put up some decent numbers

Damn Malone got paid, Tampa is looking good all they need is a goalie and somehow I see that somebody Ray Emery. Don't ask me how or why but I do.

Re: 2008 Offseason Thread
Anyone see that outrageous rumor about Boston and Hossa. Apparently, Boston will offer Hossa 12 years, $120 million. That has to be the worst rumor ever.
Anyway, Bryce Salvador re-signed with NJ. 4 years, $2.9 million per. Mike Green re-sign with Washington. 4 years, $5.25 per season.

Boston will not give him that.
Edmonton just got some space by trading torres to columbus. I have a feeling they are going to try and blow hossa away. Damn!

I honestly believe whatever Edmonton throws at Hossa, he will not go there. Nothing personal against Edmonton, but from what I have read about the climate up there, and Hossa mentioning climate as a factor in where he signs, I don't see him going there.
Anyway, Dupuis re-signed with the Pens for 3 years.

I think that is a good trade for Edmonton. Brule was a high 1st round pick and has yet to do anything major in the NHL. Maybe he'll figure it out in Edmonton.

Edmonton and Tampa Bay have been active so far this offseason.
Good trade for Edmonton. Pitkanen didn't do much for Edmonton last season and they just acquired Vishnovsky, who is a better Offensive D-Man than Pitkanen.

When do you expect the big names to make their decision?
I remember last year it was pretty slow in the beginning.

I'm guessing tomorrow. It will give them time to review all the offers and talk about them with their family.

Crap. I was hoping Hossa would sign with beantown today.

Lol. Boston doesn't have the cap space unless they are able to trade Murray and Fernandez. Right now, they only have $6 million available.

We have the cap space. Wideman filed for arb. Which means we have a few more weeks before we have to buyout murray. Murray is as good as gone. Word around here is that hossa is ours barring he gets some outstanding offer.

Right now Boston has $6.33 million available. If they buyout Murray, 3/4 of his contract still counts against the cap. With Wideman filing for arbitration, he will probably get a good amount. If anything, Boston will only have $7 million to give Hossa after Murray's buyout and Wideman's new contract.

Radim Vrbata to Tampa Bay. Geez. They better be happy with their team for the next 4-5 years. $3M a year.
No goalie and defense. GM should be fired.
With Vrbata signing for $3M, I'm hoping Shero can get Ryder for under $3M and put him with Geno once Hossa re-signs.
