Calgary needs to win or they're out of it tonight versus the Avs.

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (Update 4/2)
The West could realistically have seven 100-point teams (not looking at schedules). Has that ever happened?

2006-2007 was the last time.
Detroit (113)
Anaheim (110)
Nashville (110)
San Jose (107)
Dallas (107)
Vancouver (105)
Minnesota (104)
And Calgary and Colorado had 96 and 95 points respectively that season. The previous two years before 2006-2007 the Eastern Conference had six teams with 100 or more points.

The West top 8 are set. The East is down to nine with the Rangers on the outside looking in.
Seriously though, how disappointing are the Flames?

I'm soooo glad the Flames choked and missed the playoffs. What are the odds of the Rangers making the playoffs??

Flames with a miserable year...
For the Wings i really dont want the Canucks first round. Anyone else will do. I would love the Preds if i had a realistic choice, but just not Vancouver

How is that a realistic choice? The only chance is a 4/5 matchup and Phoenix only needs one point to clinch it.

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (NYR 1 Pt. Back)
Big game last night was the Rangers beat the Leafs 5-1. Other games of note involved some shuffling in the West, with Chicago back to first, Detroit to 5th, LA to 7th.
Montreal clinches a berth with a win or OT/SO loss tonight in Carolina (the home of the 2011 ASG). Boston plays Buffalo tonight with hopes of extending their lead on the 8th seed. Philly and New York are off.
Games of interest out West: San Jose at Vancouver, Phoenix at LA

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (NYR 1 Pt. Back)
Go figure that Toronto mails one in for a chance to screw Montreal in the last game. I've been telling all my Halak-nut hugging friends for a long time now, that the season is probably going to end in a tie with Boston, and Montreal getting by with the season tie breaker due to who? Carey Price. If the Habs choose Halak over Price this summer I'm going to go ****ing ape****.

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (BOS 6th; LA-DET-NSH tied)
Boston with a big win over Buffalo vaults them into 6th thanks to having a game in hand over Montreal, who lost in Carolina and failed to clinch a spot. The Rangers are now two points out of 8th-seeded Philly, who play each other Friday night in Manhattan. Rangers lose, the East is set aside from positioning. Rangers win, they're still out because Philly has more wins, but at least they won't be dead. But, these two meet again Sunday in Philly, so that could make for a helluva regular season finale were the Rangers to pull out a home victory tomorrow night.
LA grabbed a point from Phoenix, giving them 98 points, the same as Detroit and Nashville. LA sits fifth by having more wins than Detroit and a game in hand over Nashville (who has one more victory than the Kings right now). Detroit's the only team of these three that plays tomorrow night, in Columbus. San Jose beats Vancouver, back atop the West by two points. Chicago has a shot to answer tomorrow night against Colorado. Should note, if my math is right, the Avalanche are stuck at 8th.
Final weekend of the regular season, still a good deal to figure out.

You really aren't blaming the Leafs for Montreal's issues clinching a spot right now, are you?

Actually I heard today that if the Red Wings and Blackhawks both win today (Friday) then we won't meet in the 1st round. Do your part Detroit!

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (BOS 6th; LA-DET-NSH tied)
Vancouver is guaranteed the 3 seed
Phoenix is guaranteed the 4 seed
Colorado is guaranteed the 8 seed
If Nashville wins tomorrow they finish with 100 points. That means Los Angeles would have to finish 1-0-1 at least to finish ahead (if they finish 0-2 they would only have 98 points, if they finish 1-1 they would finish with 100 points like Nashville, both would have 46 wins but Nashville would finish ahead based on their 3-1 record against Los Angeles.)
If the same scenario happens except against Detroit, Detroit would only have to win one game based on them getting the most points in head to head matchups (8-6 for Detroit).

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (NYR-PHI Tied; meet Sun.)
Games done for the night:
-The Rangers beat the Flyers 4-3 and now are in a virtual tie for 8th. These two meet in Philly on Sunday, winner goes to the playoffs. Doesn't get much better than that. Would love for this to be on NBC, but alas, we get a probably meaningless game in Boston and Washington instead.
-Blackhawks beat the Avs 5-2, back atop the West.
-Red Wings beat Columbus in a shootout, move into 5th, can now finish no lower than 6th (I think).
Things to watch for Saturday:
-Boston and Montreal are in "win and you're in" scenarios. Boston hosts the Hurricanes, Habs host Toronto. This is Montreal's last regular season game, so it would behoove them to just go ahead and win. Boston will have another shot Sunday if they fail Saturday.
-San Jose will host Phoenix in their final game of the season. If the Sharks lose, Blackhawks win the West.
-LA will host Edmonton and Nashville hosts St. Louis. These two are tied for 6th in the West. This is the Preds final game, the Kings have one after.
-New Jersey and Pittsburgh each have two games left and have identical records (44-27-7). Right now, New Jersey has the tiebreaker because of head-to-head record. Devils host the Isles, Pitt is in Atlanta. If New Jersey wins and the Pens lose, the Devils will win the Atlantic.
Got it figured out yet?

If what I heard yesterday is correct, the Hawks won't play the Wings in the 1st round no matter what.
Hawks need a win on Sunday vs Detroit or a Sharks loss to clinch #1 overall.
