The Sharks need to make changes. Heatley isnt going anywhere with that contract and Joe Thornton probably stays too but its time to move Marleau. You cant have 3 guys who are known for being no shows when it counts.

Out of the three I'd try hardest to move Heatley. Joe has been fantastic and anyone who watched these playoffs should no longer think he's a no show. Marleau's way too streaky but when he's on he's great. Heatley's been very underwhelming in his time here, but as you said I don't know if we could move him, especially not for any good value. The Sharks offense is fine - it's the defense that needs fixing - but I really don't think an overhaul is necessary. The Sharks were the better team in most games in the series, but couldn't put it together and lost every goddamn lead in the third period. I wouldn't put that on the guys you mentioned, certainly not Thornton or Marleau. Speaking as someone who's seen all of their playoff games and have been pissed as hell at them at times, their reputations really are undeserved.
I love Tampa Bay's team and I'm hoping tomorrow's game is a good one. The ECF winner better win the Cup.

The Sharks needed defensive help all season, and for some reason Wilson didnt get it done. A decent market for top-4 blueliners in the offseason with Bieksa (dont know he would go to SJ after the playoffs), maybe Ehrhoff (the bet is, he stays in Vancouver), Markov, Kaberle, Pitkanen, Gill, Brewer, Ericsson, McCabe, Jovanovski...

Oh PLEASE! Why aren't they in the Finals then? Vancouver has been a GREAT third period team all season long and all playoffs long minus a couple lapses. Just because you outshoot a team doesn't make you the "better team" at all. Like you said, the Sharks defense was suspect at best and they just don't have enough speed to keep up with a team like the Canucks.Good luck Boston fans, I'm dreading a Boston win because I'm selfish and would rather haveto face the Bolts, but we'll see how it pans out tonight!

Re: 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Conference Finals Schedule pg
I did word that wrong - I meant to say they were the better team in most parts of the games in the series, completely controlling play at times. But they didn't play all 60 minutes and I even said Vancouver deserved to win the series in an earlier post because of that. We still were dominating most of the time and if not for unlucky bounces (such as the apparent icing), we would be going to a Game 7 now. I'm happy with the way the Sharks played and they were definitely much better than the 4-1 series loss would make people think. I never say that after our early playoff exits.
And just as a side note, Kesler isn't nearly as good as people would think from the way Versus slobbers over him. He's obviously not a scrub, but I don't get all the love. The Sedins are much more of a threat.

Kesler is amazing, you're nuts. They "slobber" all over him because he is a complete player, locking down the others teams best players while contributing solidly at the offensive end. He does it all.

I didn't say he was bad or anything near it, I said I was annoyed by all the coverage he got. You'd be nuts to think Kesler is better than Thornton, and yet Joe got hardly any coverage the whole series. He was playing with a separated shoulder and unattached pinky and was still the best player on the team. And at least on the offensive side, the Sedins scared me more.

Re: 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Conference Finals Schedule pg
But what does that say about the Sharks? It's well documented with the group that they have have been unsuccessful when it counts. Sure Thornton was their best player, despite his injuries... but where's the rest of that team? Pavelski? Heatley? Rookie of the year candidate, Couture? You can't win squat when your team doesn't show up... and the networks are a heck of a lot less likely to do player profiles on the losing team.
Vancouver has been the best team all year, and Kesler has been a stud the past couple seasons in all aspects of the game... not just offensively like Big Joe. If I were a network, I'd be talking about him too! Were you watching on the Canadian or American network? Assuming US network... Kesler is an American, and Joe Thornton is a Canadian... could have something to do with it as well.

When it comes down to it, I'd take Kesler over Thornton on my team any day. Especially in the playoffs.
With that being said, go Lightning.

Re: 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Conference Finals Schedule pg
I'm probably sounding like a homer now, and don't want to go on cause I'm not one at all. However, Thornton has been our best player in all aspects of the game this season. His reputation is that he's only good on offense, but he's really turned it around defensively this year - he led the league in takeaways - and if you've watched the Sharks this season (not a knock against you or anything, I hardly ever get to watch other teams play), you'd know that he's a two-way player. Kesler is definitely a fantastic player, but it just annoyed me how Versus (American channel) kept talking about him when there were other players on the ice, like Joe or the Sedins, who I still think are better. sh00n, I really doubt you watched any of these games, otherwise you wouldn't say that.
The Sharks were an injured bunch this postseason - Couture had a broken nose, Heatley a broken hand, Clowe couldn't put on his own sweater - but that's hardly an excuse, it's the playoffs and everyone is hurt. I still found the Sharks to be the better team a lot of the time even with all their problems, but the reason that Vancouver won is cause they capitalized on all the Sharks lapses. In game 4, the Sharks were playing fantastic hockey until something went horribly wrong and they gave up all those 5 on 3 chances. I give all the credit to Vancouver for scoring three times there in two minutes, especially since Sharks couldn't score once on the PP. There's 60 minutes in a hockey game, and while the Sharks were better for the majority, they couldn't score, while the Canucks could. Vancouver did a much better job at taking advantage of any leeway the Sharks gave them. I never said Vancouver didn't deserve to win, I just said I'm proud of the Sharks and thought they were the controlling play and the better team most of the time. There's a difference.

You're just making excuses. He led the league in takeaways only because Datsyuk was out for a good chunk of time. I watched every game of every series San Jose played this year, and a few during the season, and while Thornton's been better overall, he is no longer on Kesler's level, and that was proven this series, injuries or not. Let's not forget Kesler was also injured in the last game, yet managed to score the game tying goal and still have a huge impact.
It's cool to defend your team, and Thornton is still a top player in the NHL, but he's not worth anywhere near what Kesler is worth now. Which sucks for San Jose because Kesler is locked up for less dollars.

Datsyuk is the best player in the league, I'm not comparing Joe to him. Tell me what excuses I'm making. Also, Thornton's been better overall, but is no longer on Kesler's level? Ok. Both are top tier players, and I think Joe's better right now and deserves more respect. I don't agree at all with you saying he's not worth anywhere is right now. Maybe in a year or two since Joe's got 5 years on him, but not now.
Great game going on so far.

Re: 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Conference Finals Schedule pg
Pathetic job by the Lightning at the end of the game.
1. I hate the dump and chase play to begin with.
2. If you're going to do the dump and chase don't make it so damn obvious. Taking a huge windup from behind the red line is stupid. They see you winding up so they can retreat and they're going to beat you to the puck which will be icing so you have to bring your goalie out anyways.
They were trying to do the dump and chase for probably two minutes and it didn't work once.

I was 1 last time this happened. So again. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Amazing, so stoked.
Thoughts:
-Roloson played out of his mind. I didn't think we were gonna get a goal.
-That stamkos puck to face was unsettling.
-I loved seeing the whole team celebrate, but the three people who made me mark out when I saw them, were actually in suits. Savard, Thornton and of course Neely.
