Re: Around the NHL
Corey Schneider with a solid game in net for Vancouver. I've said time and time again, the Canucks need to trade Luongo, because the kid is a stud. They'd free up some serious cap space, and replace him with a veteran backup capable of stepping in through some growing pains. Imagine what else Vancouver could do with another 5 or so million in additional cap room to use to improve their lineup.

On a side note, what an amazing start by Jonathan Quick with the Kings. A 5-0-1 record with 3 straight shutouts? Nice.

Re: Around the NHL
Trading Luongo sounds good and all, but do you actually think ANY team would take that contract? I guarantee Gillis has tried unsuccessfully. The extension was an enormous mistake and the only way they get rid of him is to buy him out.
Schneider is very good, but they will have to trade him. They could probably get a decent young defenseman and forward for him while his value is still high.

I don't know, i'm sure there are teams out there that would take Luongo, the Canucks probably would get much back but they'd get rid of him.
Also i'm sure they should be shopping him just yet. Platoon him and Schneider or even give Schneider the starting job and see if that lights a fire under Luongo's ass.

I gotta agree with this, no one wants that contract. Trading Schneider for picks and prospects is by far the more likely option and will return more for them. Same with the Kings and Bernier...Quick looks like the real deal (as my fantasy team found out this week, jesus)
Both teams should be calling Stevie Y and Tampa. If anyone needs a young goalie, its them

Re: Around the NHL
I absolutely think there would be a market for Luongo. His confidence is shot right now in Vancouver, especially since the playoffs. However, he's still an elite goaltender...and a fresh start would certainly do him good. He put up vezina type numbers last season, let's not get blinded by that because of how he played in the finals. The length of the contract is what will hinder his value, but he's only sitting at a 5.3 million cap hit. He'll have a salary of 1.6 million and under the final 3 years of his contract.

Re: Around the NHL
The only teams that would consider it would be a team struggling to get above the floor. The only team close to the floor that may consider trading for Luongo would be Phoenix. Dallas and New York have goalies they like in Lehtonen and Montoya.

Re: Around the NHL
There are very few teams that could take on "Bobby Lou" or would want to. I can't see the Coyotes in the mix I mean is there future 100% safe in Glendale? I know Hamilton, Quebec, Kitchener and Waterloo and a lot of other Canadian markets are still looking for a team. I would have loved Loungo on Detroit like 2 years ago but with the emergence of Howard (plus signed to a cheap deal) I don't see it.
Only teams I could see is like a Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay or Washington Capitals right now that a clear #1 goalie
Speaking of Washington man they really kicked our asses last weekend got to hand it to them they are playing great offensive hockey right now.

Re: Around the NHL
I still can't believe there is talk about Nugent-Hopkins being sent down at the 9-game mark; the kid has serious skills and he belongs in the NHL.

Re: Around the NHL
They're not going to send him down. They were talking about doing the same thing at the same time last year with Hall and he stuck and was much worse than Nugent-Hopkins through the first several games.

Being on the same line with Hossa has been un****ingreal for Kane

Re: Around the NHL
Just curious who do you all think is the first star to be traded? I think we could see either one of Spezza or Alffy traded soon from Ottawa depending on how they do over the next month and they need defense and a goalie bad. 36 goals over 9 games is bad.
Can't believe how great Pittsburgh is playing without Crosby and Washington both have been on great rolls Dallas has shocked me as well I would have
at somebody if they said they would be 7-2 right now

This whole thing got blow way out of proportion after one quote from Renny. There was never any serious talk of sending him down.

Re: Around the NHL
And the Oilers end the Caps winning streak. Watching Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle play together gives a giant bonner (No homo), in a year or two thats going to be the best line in hockey.

Yeah....thats a bit of an odd one. Now the Jets giving up 8 I can believe but Bryz should not be letting in that many goals

Yeah it's a bit silly how much high end talent is on that single line
