Consistency is important, but you can't keep making bad calls for the sake of consistency

Rome has to be suspended right? Horton is probably done for the series I figure. Eye for an eye?

2011 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins v. Vancouver Canucks

Post#603 » by Celtics_Champs » Tue Jun 7, 2011 2:44 pm

Horton is done for the series with a severe concussion. I knew he was done, but the severe part scares me. Will this be another savard situation? I pray it isn't, Horton proved these playoffs he is one hell of a piece for the future. Man if he could just sit up in the box with savard i'd be happy.

Time for seguin to step his game up.

Rome suspended four games, aka the rest of the series.

Justice.

Justice has been served. Don't know how you can argue that wasn't a dirty hit.

I'm arguing the consistency. The way Mike Murphy described the hit and why it should've been a suspension could've been used word for word on describing the Chara/Pacioretty hit, and that one did more damage, with history between the players and intent to injure. I would be completely fine with Rome getting suspended if they were at least ****ing consistent or tried to be.

Easy call. Nice job, NHL. Could probably suspend him for a few games next season, too.

Common sense wins out.

Then why didn't Chara get suspended?

Cause Rome went for the head with the hit. Chara had his arms on his chest until the end. That stanchion was also supposed to be covered. La Presse even said that Habs player avoided playing in that area because it was dangerous.

But if your idea of correcting a perceived wrong is to ensure that every other bad hit is also dealt with in the same way then youre only making things worse.

ORLY?

My idea is Chara should've been suspended in the first place to make an example out of him. Instead he got absolutely nothing and the league actually defended his BS hit. So why the hell would another player be scared of going for an equally dangerous hit knowing the chances of getting suspended are slim?

Because it was a completely different situation. Rome's hit was late and he aimed for the head.

Are you guys seriously going to keep using that argument? His hand isn't even on his damn stick; it's directing the head right into the stanchion.

Maybe I didnt explain myself properly. Chara was squeezing him along the boards and Chara had his arms on his chest until the end when he then used his hands on his head. Rome clearly went for the head right away. The point of impact was the head for the Rome hit while it wasnt for Chara. There is a clear difference between the two hits.

Exactly. You also have to take the fact that Chara's 6'9 into consideration, everytime he go's to finnish a hit its going to look like he's going for the head.

Rome got what he deserved for a very dirty hit.

This is the Stanley Cup Finals thread. Stop flooding it with your weird cult-like Habs propaganda. Montreals not in playoffs, deal with it somewhere else.

Bite me. When have I once mentioned Montreal not being in the playoffs? I'm comparing two hits, genius.

The hit didn't take place in the Stanley Cup Finals no comparison to be made here.

But if you wanna throw another hit into the mix check out this "highlight" from the Habs official site

Notice the reaction of the crowd after Hall Gill throws that guy into the turnbuckle. Hypocrites in motion.

Hockey sucks. They should take away fighting and body checking.

Penalties should be an eye for an eye. Take a player out for the rest of their lives and serve a lifetime suspension.
