actually i thought this was a good move, they're showing the league they have money to spend and aren't afraid to spend it. Vanek was NEVER going ANYWHERE after the FA buffalo just had so they knew Buffalo was gonna match.

In other words, this tells the rest of the league to trade your RFAs to them or they're gonna offer them a 50 mill offer which they'll hafta match

Look for the Oil to go after Parise next, then Stempniak

Regier has just vowed revenge at the press conference. He sounds displeased

I hope a team does this to the Rangers and Lundqvist. Show teams to sign your own players first, before going into free agency or letting them become a RFA.

Haha. Also looks more and more likely that Raycroft is the odd man out with the signing of Clemmenson.

It won't happen, you can't offer a contract sheet to some one who filed for arbitration... none the less that offer sheet Vanek got will affect arbitration

Clemmensen could very well play in the AHL with Pogge next season. Signing him doesn't mean he'll be the backup.

My guess is he'll be there until we trade Raycroft. If we trade Raycroft before Cujo is signed then we'll get Cujo and keep Scott down, if not then Clemmy comes up and backs up Toskala

You can't offer a contract sheet to a player who has filed for arbitration (notice how fast the Rangers filed after this event took place)

Yeah, I made that comment before I knew he filed for arbitration. He's still going to make a crap load of money from arbitration, unless they can work out a contract before the arbitration hearing.

Well this arbitration effects my flames alot.... Kipper is only making 3.5 ughh he will get more than Lundqvist, like prolly 6.5 million.

Flames are in cap hell:

Iginla gets 7
Regher 4
Tanguay 5

Then you have Phanuef getting pretty high(he was only on an entry level contract) assuming its 5 million

Kipper prolly 6.5

Hmm, I was under the impression JFJ wanted to get rid of him asap. I didn't realize they were still interested in Cujo.

Raycroft to Detroit make it happen Holland. JFJ is a bonehead and would even trade him for Hasek and a filler ala Hudler.

Souray signs with the Oilers

I was really pissed when we kept Souray around at the deadline for this exact reason... he wouldn't be a Hab for the 07-08 season. Ah well.

Details to follow...

Souray grew up in Alberta, so that most likely played a role in the signing. Kevin Lowe likes westerners
