http://hockey.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/9158/20110227/seabrook_gets_5_year_extension/The Blackhawks agreed to a five-year contract extension with defenseman Brent Seabrook, the team announced Sunday.
The deal is for $29M, which will be a yearly $5.8M cap hit, a source told ESPN.com.
Well they really needed to resign him but this just puts them further into cap hell. They now have 29 million locked up in Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith and now Seabrook.
Thoughts on the extension?

With those five locked up, you're gonna win a lot of games. Seabrook is only 25. Now you find a way to keep Sharp around.

Nashville and LA are ****ting bricks on what it's gonna cost to keep Shea and Doughty.
Chicago has to find a way to get out of Hossa/Campbell's contracts if they want to compete again. Both are great players but they both make too much at too long a deal. Especially Campbell.

That's probably Bowman's goal in the offseason is finding a place for Campbell. He's actually been decent this season but not to that contract. But Hossa won't go anywhere.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Oilers taking him off your hands if we get some picks along with him.

MY guess is that they would want to unload Bolland's contract (3.4 mill for 3 more years) too. I don't know how the Hawks are going to be able to fill out a team next year. I'm no cap expert but they are going to have trouble methinks

This team likes Bolland a lot, though. He's not worth that money, but he's been a pretty key guy to this club.

I'm not saying he isn't a nice player but with all that money tied up in what, 6 guys, you gotta go cheap almost everywhere else
