RIP Derek Boogaard

NEW YORK -- New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard was found dead Friday in his Minneapolis apartment. He was 28.

The team announced Boogaard's death on Friday night, but gave no details.


A great fighter and way too young to go, RIP to the Boogie Man

Ugh :( even though I have to hate the Rangers I hate hearing about young deaths more. I hope his family can recover from this tragedy. Kinda makes me wonder are the Rangers cursed? This is the 3rd young ranger death in the last few years & young athlete deaths are not common.

There haven't been very many details released so far. All they've said so far is that foul play isn't suspected.

Boogaard's family is donating his brain to concusion research. Amazing selfless move by his family.

With all the punishment Boogaard took over the years, I'd be surprised if there wasn't brain damage.

He was receiving counseling in the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program before he died. I didn't know that until today. Not speculating, just a bit of info I thought I'd post.

But yeah, I would guess there is some brain damage as well with his history of concussions.

Ruled accidental by mixing alcohol and oxycodone together.
