AP - Brian Rafalski has officially retired from the NHL, according to an Associated Press report.
The three-time Stanley Cup winner and two-time Olympic silver medalist confirmed his decision Wednesday.
Rafalski says spending time with his family in good health is more important than the $6M he would've made next season in the final year of his contract with the Red Wings.
Bit of a suprise but he had a great career won 2 cups and a couple silver medals. Said he wanted to spend more time with family.
This really sucks for the Wings though.
