GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Even without an owner and with the NHL running the team, the Phoenix Coyotes were hopeful of re-signing free-agent goalie Ilya Bryzgalov.

When it became clear they weren't going to be able to reach a deal, the Coyotes backed out and decided to let the Philadelphia Flyers give it a go.

Frustrated with what it felt was a high asking price, Phoenix sent Bryzgalov's negotiating rights to the Flyers on Tuesday for a third-round draft pick in 2012, forward Matt Clackson and future considerations.

I really hope Philly doesn't get a deal done... I don't want them to have a legit starter... argh.

I believe in Bobrovsky's ability. But I also think Philly can't afford Bryzgalov. Just from his interviews it seems like he is determined to get a tonne of money, which will make him test the open market.

Philly is in cap hell. They may have enough to afford Bryz if the cap will raise to $62 million, but absolutely no room to do anything else. The biggest contract they can dump is Zherdev's.

I love the idea of them getting him but I just don't see how they can sign him. But if they do find a way to sign him look out eastern conference.

He wants too much money. It looks good now because they have his rights, but it's going to look like **** when they have to trade Jeff Carter to sign him.

Philly also traded a pick to Nashville last year to negotiate with Hamhuis and you see how far that got them.

Not to mention Ryan Parent too. Such a dumb trade.

They ll get it done this time I think. They did it successfully for Timonen and Hartnell. Philly really is only missing a goalie. The only concern with Bryz is that he isnt a proven winner and has looked shaky in the playoffs.

Bryz sucks. He's going to look even worse at that price tag/years.

He was horrible in the playoffs. But over the last 3 years he's been one of the better goalies in the league and he's done that with a fairly crappy defense in front of him.

All Philly need's him to do is be consistent, if he can do that Philly is going to be a very dangerous team.

I just think he's a regular season goalie. And to lose draft picks, Jeff Carter and to have that cap hit for 5-6 years is going to hurt Philly big time. They'd be better off just letting Sponge Bob grow off a fairly solid rookie year, in my opinion.

But knowing Philly's luck, they'll make the move of Carter for 8th & Voracek, only for Dougie Hamilton to fall to them and Voracek becoming a stud. They're Detroit-East when it comes to their luck with stuff like that.

The Coyotes had one of the worst defenses in the league coupled with a mediocre offense. Put a competent defense in front of him and he'll be good. Certainly better than the roulette wheel the Flyers have operated under the last few seasons.

He hasn't signed for that amount, thats just what he's looking for. And really I think him and his agent are out to lunch on those numbers.

Yeah his agent is nuts if he thinks hes getting that kind of cash. Delusional for sure. Then again he did say that Russia was an option.

Every Russian player uses that line. I say let him go if all he's concerned about is the money.

Just signed a 9 year 51 million dollar deal. I love that they retained him but thats way too many years for a 31 year old.

Its 5.7 million a year which is okay. But signing him for 9 years is just (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
