ESPN.com - The Sharks once again signed a key player before he could test the free-agent market, agreeing Thursday to a $9M, three-year deal with forward Devin Setoguchi.

Setoguchi was eligible to become a restricted free agent July 1 but wanted to stay in San Jose. The feeling was mutual as the Sharks got the deal done early.

"I couldn't be happier right now," Setoguchi said on a conference call. "San Jose is such a great place to play. The organization is great. The team is top-notch. All the way through, it's the best place to play in the National Hockey League."

That's a steal of a deal for the Sharks. Well done San Jose.

Yeah the Sharks showed how it's done. $9 million over a 3 year term is a steal for Devin right now. I have a feeling that if he did hit the market even as a RFA there would be a few teams looking to overpay for him

Setoguchi traded to Minnesota along with Charlie Coyle and the 28th pick for Brent Burns and a 2012 2nd round pick.
