Lightning Lock up Stamkos, 5 Years 37.5 Million

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Tuesday that the club has agreed to a five-year contract with restricted free agent Steven Stamkos.

The 21-year-old will earn $37.5 million over the course of the deal.

Stamkos will earn $4 million in the first year with a $4 million signing bonus, $5 million in the second year with a $3 million bonus, $8 million in years three and four and $5.5 million in the final year, averaging $7.5 million a season.

Well its about frickin time they locked him up. But I have to say I really like the deal for Tampa, they got him at an amazing price and they didn't give him one of those ridiculous 10 year contracts either.

Thats based off what? that they are largest hockey market around? Tavares is a T.O boy along with Stammer. John Tavares could very well be in blue and white in a few seasons.

Toronto getting Tavares is such a Toronto thing to say.

The fact that they had no chance. Why would Stamkos leave Tampa for Toronto?

Also I don't see Tavares leaving the Island any time soon. The Islanders are going to lock him up long term before he even hits the market. And if he does become a RFA he's not going to Toronto and Toronto would be stupid to go after him.

The only way Tavares leaves the island is if the Islanders leave the island.

Typical Leafs answer. I guess that's why guys like Dale Howerchuk, Keith Primeau, and Steve Shutt were busting down the doors waiting to play for their hometown Leafs.

And boy, are they going to look incredible in a few years when Chris Stewart, PK and Stephen Weiss all come to their door begging for a lifetime contract with a hometown discount included.
