Amid persistent rumours about the progress of his recovery from concussion-like symptoms, Sidney Crosby is set to address the media at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Crosby is still suffering the lingering effects from a concussion he suffered last season and has not played in an NHL game since January 5. He will be joined at the news conference by Penguins general manager Ray Shero and some of the doctors and medical staff managing his case.

I'm not sure what exactly to make of this. I just can't see him calling a press conference to just step up to the podium and say "hey everythings alright, i'm fine and ready to play."

What do you guys think?

I don't know about the season, but he's definitely going to be missing time.

The fact that his doctors are going to be up there with him makes me think that the news is going to be bad.

Yep. People don't call a press conference to say that they're going to even miss the season. People call press conferences to say that they're retiring.

That's the worst case scenario. I hope I'm wrong.

So the jist of it was he's not close to being cleared for contact but he hopes to be back sometime this season.

It was pretty much what I was expecting, he's going to miss time potentially a lot of it and he's not going to come back until he's 100%.

Well he's just been ruled out of the season opener, but it sounds like he'll be traveling with the team on their season opening 3 game road trip. So its starting to sound like he might be back soon.

uh oh...

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms.

Sidney Crosby is having a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year. Crosby said Monday he noticed a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year following a 3-1 loss to Boston last week.

Crosby sat out Pittsburgh’s two-game road trip to Philadelphia and New York as a precaution but said he’s noticed familiar symptoms during light workouts over the weekend.

The 24-year-old former MVP said there is no timetable for his return but he will definitely not play on Tuesday against Detroit.

I think he's all but done. Being out for 11 months and then going down against after not even a hard hit (it's not like he got Stevens on Lindros'd)

The initial length of the first one is what worries me most, this is pretty obviously serious

Crosby is done if you ask me. I think he just isn't into the game anymore, it sounds like he has personal issues, I only say this because the standard line in the NHL has always been suck it up and deal with it (I don't know if perhaps that's what he's been dying to do only in another way). Everyone in pro sports suffers concussions, most players just fight through it. Honestly I'm convinced the guy is gay and he's struggling with that (not intended to be homophobic) and if he's not he just doesn't care about the game.

Crosby is far from done. The guy missed 10+ months came back and looked like he hadn't missed a beat, to say he doesn't care about the game is about the most asinine comment I have ever read on here. Worse then my stupid older brother saying Mats Sundin or Eric Lindros are better players then Nik Lidstrom or Steve Yzerman or Gordie Howe.

Crosby when healthy is saving hockey in the US markets people will talk about him whenever he plays. How many people do you know that play through concusions? Lindros' carrer was cut short cause of them and countess others. I don't see why you would call him gay? To me that just shows your talking out of your ass and trying to be a hater or just a douche. Keep it up man with these posts and you will be on the waiver wire soon enough

I am thinking he should just sit this season and get himself plenty rested and healthy for next season. He should have a very long career left in him (12-15 years perhaps), no sense risking it now.

I wish that were the case. But I get a bad feeling about this. He sits out 10 months, and then plays a couple weeks, and the symptoms return. I know all hockey fans, not just Penguin fans, want to see him on the ice. But the kid is only 24. He's got a long like ahead hopefully. He has to think about his long term health. What if he takes a shot and these symptons magnify to where they happen weekly for him? His life would be miserable. Sidney can stay involved in the game. Get into coaching, management, announcing. I mentioned this on the General Thread before I saw this separate Thread. He has to be smart here. Listen to the doctors. Get a 2nd and a 3rd opinion if you like. But if they tell him to hang up the skates, then by all mean, hang 'em up.
