Brendan Shanahan

So far he's made it pretty clear that hits from behind and hits directed towards the head are not fair game. So far he's handed out a crap ton of suspensions, too many to list and he's been pretty consistent with them.

It really looks like things are going to be a lot of different with Shanahan as the leagues head disciplinarian. What do you guys think of him so far?

Frankly, I think the best part of what he's done was make a video to describe why he made what rulings, then put it online. A minor little thing that could be revolutionary in sports.

Yah I forgot to mention that. That video was an outstanding idea.

Yeah I think he's been pretty solid so far. I like the video idea as well gives the casual fan and to some degree the hardcore fan a great explanation on the rule why a player or player(s) were suspended. So far I think he's showing repeat offenders if you break the rules you will get nailed to the wall.

Great to see him sticking to his guns and nailing people for cheap/dirty shots

He has set a very good example early on, and the way he is going about it with the videos is outstanding; especially pointing out that repeat offenders will be punished more.

I like the videos. I wish he would do a couple on borderline plays that DON"T receive suspensions though. There have been a couple in the preseason so far (Matt Cooke and Tangradi to name a couple).

I think he's done a perfect job. Would've been nice to have him around instead of that POS Campbell when Chara broke Pacioretty's neck.

Surprised it took this long for you to bring this up.

Looks like Detroits top prospect will be getting a phone call after smoking Ben Smith

In Brendan Smith's defense, it looked like he lined up for the hit and Ben Smith deked at the last second and put himself in a much more vulnerable position. And Brendan isn't known as a dirty player in the minors FWIW. It looks bad, but I'm not sure it is so cut and dry as appears on first glance

Doesn't excuse it though, he will get (rightfully) suspended

Ben did have his head down but Brendan stuck his elbow out at the last second.

It was shoulder to face, no elbow involved. His elbow flares out afterwords, but I am pretty confident he didn't touch him with it

He should get some games like I said. But it looks worse than it was and Ben didn't help matters much

First awful suspension from Shanahan. Calvert lifts Bouchard's stick into his face. I thought the 4 minute penalty was pretty weak after watching the replay, two game suspension for that is horrible.

So every time a player lifts a player's stick into their own face, they get suspended? Chalk that one up to stupidity on Calvert. Not dirty play by Bouchard.

I don't think it was suspension worthy considering Bouchard's clean track record but the 4 minute penalty was justified. Calvert did lift his stick but Bouchard did push his stick forward and into Calvert's face.
