Ya this is going to be strange.

But on another note I doubt this really changes much in Toronto.

How and why were teachers a majority owner of a pro sports franchise? Could someone explain this to me?

I'd like to know this as well.

Some pension funds buy mutual funds or stocks the Ontario teachers pension fund bought MLSE.

This just means that Rogers will continue to spend little to no attention or money on the Blue Jays.

After Harold Ballard died, he didn't leave the Maple Leafs to his kids. There was a massive power struggle amongst the other shareholders of the team at the time to find out who owned the team. It ended up being Steve Stavro (owned a chain of grocery stores) but he needed to be backed by someone with money... that's where the teachers came in.

When Stavro stepped down, he sold the majority of his shares to the Teachers, thus giving them the 51% or whatever it was back then. Before they sold their shares to Rogers/Bell, they also bought out TD Bank's shares of the company giving them 80%
