One day after Mike Cammalleri made disparaging remarks about the current status of the Montreal Canadiens, the team decided to part ways with the veteran forward.

On Thursday night, Montreal traded Cammalleri, as well as goaltender Karri Ramo and fifth round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft to the Calgary Flames for forwards Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland a second round pick in 2013.

Cammalleri was pulled out of Thursday's game against the Boston Bruins after the second period and sent back to the hotel amid reports of the potential trade.

Suprised the Canadiens got this much for him, no idea why Calgary would do this makes zero sense for them.

Really? I thought they could get more for Cammalleri, but it seemed like the trade went down pretty quickly after his remarks about the team earlier.

From Pierre LeBrun:

Just a day after spouting off about his frustrations with the way the team was playing, Cammalleri was gone.

Was it a rash move by embattled Habs GM Pierre Gauthier?

Consider this: One NHL GM told ESPN.com Thursday night he wished he would have known Cammalleri was available because he had some interest in the player.

Other GMs would of had or had some serious leverage in negotiations after those comments. I agree they probably made a move too quickly, they very easily could of just sat him and listened too a few more offers but I doubt they would of gotten much more.

Bourque gives the Canadiens another big power forward that can score and he makes about 3 million less than Cammalleri, Patrick Holland's a decent prospect who's probably going to be a decent 3rd liner down the road and that 2nd round pick is probably going to get them a fairly good prospect.

Take it for what its worth as it's secondhand information, but I heard that someone heard cammo on a Boston radio the night he was traded. They said he called up the station to tell them that they yanked him mid game and had a cab waiting outside the garden, when he got in the cab they'd tell him more information.
