Tambellini's reaction pretty much sums up my feelings.
This is good and bad for us. I'm not particularly high on Yakupov but the pick does give us a ton of options going forward.

Because the Oilers don't already have a collection of sick prospects. Guaranteed the Blue Jackets blow the #2 pick as well, so that should be fun

How is it bad? Yakupov is the first consensus #1 pick of the three. Yeah, the Oilers need D but a top pick may not be the best route to address that. It's so much harder to project BPA at that position. It's no surprise that many of the league's best weren't even taken in the first round (Chara, Lidstrom, Weber, Letang, Keith, etc.)

I've seen Yakupov a handful of times this year. You should be high on him, he's quite the dynamic player. In no way should landing him be considered 'bad'.

I'm not considering landing him bad, getting an asset like him is amazing for the team. But we don't need another small injury prone forward, we need size up front and help on the backend.
