NEW YORK -- Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues, David Poile of the Nashville Predators and Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers are the three finalists for the 2011-12 NHL general manager of the year award, the league said Tuesday.

The winner will be announced June 20 at the NHL awards in Las Vegas.

Armstrong led the Blues to a 49-22-11 record this season as the team captured its first Central Division title since 1999-2000.

This award belongs to Talon in my opinion. The Dineen hiring has worked wonders for the team and all of the moves he in free agency and though trades have really turned that franchise around.

Yep, Tallon is my pick.

Tallon did the most work, but you could make an argument that Armstrong did the best work. Made the right signings (veterans with Cups in Arnott and Langenbrunner), signed Elliott, and most importantly he only waited a month to axe his coach and hire Hitchcock before anyone else could. All this without any available money from ownership, whereas Tallon was forced to spend just to reach the cap floor (not to negate the fact he signed a lot of the right players).

Can't give it to Tallon. Give enough money to mediocre players and make enough trades for them you're going to have a mediocre team, which is exactly what the Panthers were. Put them in any other division and they're struggling for 85 points and 80 in the Atlantic or Central.

He took a team that finished last in its conference last year and turned it into a division champ, yes its weak division but it still means something.

The Versteeg and Campbell trades worked out extremely well for them, the Fleischmann and Goc signings were steals and add those moves to all the excellent draft picks he's made there and the Panthers have a very bright future ahead of them.
