The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to trade defenseman Duncan Keith to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Caleb Jones and a third-round pick, a source confirmed to The Athletic on Monday. Darren Dreger of TSN first reported the trade was expected to get done.

The Blackhawks will not retain any salary. Keith, who turns 38 on July 16, will waive the full no-movement clause in his contract, which has two years remaining.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that the Oilers and Keith had mutual interest in a deal that would send him to Edmonton. The two-time Norris Trophy winner wanted to be closer to his son in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, and Edmonton would be a 75-minute flight from Kelowna.

Keith has spent all 16 of his NHL seasons with the Blackhawks, who drafted him in the second round in 2002. He was a part of three Stanley Cup-winning teams and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable postseason performer in 2015.

Last season, Keith totaled four goals and 11 assists in 54 games, averaging 23:25 of ice time. He has averaged at least 23 minutes of ice time in every NHL season.

Jones, 24, had four assists in 33 games while averaging 13:36 of ice time last season, his third in the NHL. The brother of Columbus Blue Jackets star defenseman Seth Jones, Caleb Jones was a fourth-round pick by Edmonton in 2015.

I also watched a video conference call. He opened up about this decision: he requested a trade in order to be closer to his son. He had a 13-year contract signed in 2009 with the Blackhawks.
