Why?

Fluery is very underrated. Plus, every goalie that is in the top 5 not named Marc-Andre Fluery has a defense 5 times what Fluery has. The man gets no credit.

He is underrated, but doesn't belong on a top 5 list just yet. You have to remember, coaching staff has not been happy at times with MAF... he's been pulled and benched as well. Those aren't traits of a top 5 goaltender.

Crowned although I agree on the MAF topic, you left Luongo out of your top 5 and he could possibly win the Vezina this year.

I wish Toskala or Nabby would leave town so one of them could get the recognition they deserve... Options 1a and 1a (not a typo)

You could say Crosby and Malkin are a major reason why the Pens are as good as they have been but MAF has been playing out of his mind this year, when I made my list it's for this year.

You jsut said Gonchar was a top 5 D-Man. SO not every goalie in theleague hsa that. Not every goalie has a team made up of first round picks and some guy named Crosby in front ofthem.

Forwards:

Crosby
Thornton
Heatley
Lecavalier
Iggy

Defense:

Lindstrom
Pronger
Niedermayer
Phaneuf

"playing out of his mind" doesn't necessarily qualify him as a top 5 goaltender this season. There simply has been better players in the position.

I dont watch the Pens but they seem like a 3 or 4 goals a night team so protecting a lead that big wont be to hard.

In 04 Kipper was protecting a goal league and played the real definition of out of his mind.

I think it was 1.76 GAA

MAF has been in the dog house at times for the Pens. His save % is on par with Manny Legace and Tim Thomas and his 2.85 G.A.A isn't exactly exciting either. He's amongst the league leaders in victories, I'll give him that...but he hasn't played well enough to be considered an elite goaltender (top 5) just yet. I'm a huge MAF supporter, and think he's going to be a top 5 goaltender in the future...but he just isn't there yet.

MAF has let in some of the weakest goals ive seen in ages for such a highly touted goaltender. if it wasnt for the offense in front of him, that dude would be struggling extra hard. hes going to be their Achilles heel in the playoffs by far. very agile, makes some spectacular saves but this isnt 1984 grant fuhr hockey... he has to be more solid and focused.

Fluery has one of the best overtime and shootout records. This is when all the pressure is on him. I've seen Brodeur let in worse goals. If Fluery played on a team like New Jersey, Detroit, etc, Fluery would be getting the recognition. These teams have a good offense, and a great defense. Watch 5 Pens games in a row, and then you'd realize just how bad defensively the Pens are. Fluery is a huge reason this team is where it is right now.

The goalies you just listed, take a look at their defense and them compare them to the Pens defense. It's about 5 times better. With the exception of Luongo, who has 2 times the better D. Just because Gonchar is a top 5 D-man, doesn't mean he is spectacular at playing D. Compared to other top defenseman, he is terrible at playing Defense.
