Considering the contracts which are about to be given out to defenseman, picking up Boynton for a little under 3 mil would be wise IMO.

Boyton's the type of d-man who excelled in the old NHL but was/is unable to adapt to the speed of today's NHL. Not worth 3 million.

He's not worth 2.8-2.9 mil? Hardly.

Nick Boynton is still a good defenseman in this league. He lacks the speed that the NHL requires to be successful, but I don't think he's reached his complete potential yet. He's a dependable, hard hitting defenseman that several teams would look at. At 2.8 mil per season for the next two seasons, you're getting better value that many other teams will be getting through FA this offseason, especially when they'll be signing players longterm.

Phoenix has been shopping Boynton for a while now. No one wanted him. Now they waived him.

There's something wrong with him that 29 other GM's see.

Hell if i was Detroit i would dump Lilja and grab Nick. Theyre both slow but Boynton could at least fight for us; a rare occurance indeed.
